Subsidized Loans

I am now trying to educate myself of the loans available out there. My daughter has been going to college on an athletic scholarship, but next fall she had decided to transfer closer to home. We have a family member facing some medical issues and she just wants to be closer…her decision, not mine…but it’s her life, and I understand her reasoning.

So now, I am looking into the loans available and wanted to find out if the only subsidized loans available are the ones that you qualify (or in our situation don’t qualify for) when you fill out the fafsa?

I have searched the internet and it seems like that is the case, but thought I might be missing somthing.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I don’t know; I think you’re correct about the Stafford / Perkins being the only subsidized ones, and then only if you qualify. Good luck to you and your daughter!

The subsidized Stafford loan will be offered with a financial aid package. You have to qualify for them from the school. There are also unsubsidized Stafford loans that you may be offered. Check with the school’s FA office about the unsubsidized loans if you don’t qualify for the subsidized one.
