Substitute for Mechatronics?

I’m not sure if I can find a school that offers a degree in Mechatronics in my area. It also seems like there might not be any 100% online Mechatronics degrees (though I am not sure). Is there anyway to go to school to earn a substitute for a Mechatronics degree? It seems to be a combination between several engineering disciplines.

Assuming your “area” includes all of California you’ve got CSU-Chico which has the only ABET accredited mechatronics engineering program in the country. I think San Jose State also has some sort of mechatronics program.

However, if you were referring solely to the Los Angeles area then you could probably go with a mechanical engineering degree and dabble in certain CE and EE courses.

Yeah, I live in the Los Angeles and Inland Empire area (at different times). Chico is way too far. It’s around 7.5 hours away from LA…

Looks like I might have to put together the curriculum myself or get help from faculty to devise one…

Anyone have any idea what courses I should take with Mechanical engineering to make up for a substitute?

These may offer some guidance:

Right, of course…I should of thought of that… Thanks a lot…

Does anyone believe that combining both a computer engineering degree and mechanical engineering degree work as a substitute for a BS mechatronics education? Or would the combination provide more? I’m guessing that it would obviously provide more, but I just want to hear inputs from people who know for sure.

If you wanted to be a mechatronics engineer, you HAVE to have an ABET degree in Mech or Mecha, right?
