sue postal service

You know…a lawsuit is not the first or best way to solve any problem. A $2000 loss could easily cost more than that in legal fees (not for this case…because any honest lawyer would have also told the client that replacement was free). Even with cases with FAR higher money values, a lawsuit is not the first or best answer.

I’m sorry but I find it shocking that the first knee jerk reaction would be to sue.

The poster believed they had lost $2000 with no way to recoup their loss. Now that they have the replacement info. the poster seems content.

Yes but the fact that he/she was willing to spend lots of $$ on a case before doing a simple google search is quite sad.

I’m guessing that the poster was unfamiliar with what “suing” would entail (lots of $$, etc), and reacted out of panic. I’m guessing the poster came here for help and advice during a scary moment. I’m guessing the poster was grateful for the info he/she got

Why does it cost $2000 to get a green card? If you have proper documents, all you do is filling out some forms, isn’t it? Instructions are pretty clear.

Igloo, as someone else said, “welcome to America”. It costs big bucks to get that green card.

Not really. When I got my green card some 20-30 years ago, All I had to do was fill out a form or two and attach required documents. The instructions were clear. No sweat. My english wasn’t even good.

Things have changed I think. A quick look says filling fees are in the hundreds.

There were people with lawyers back then. too. It probably wasn’t cheap hiring an immigration lawyer. I didn’t understand why they would need a lawyer and most people had a lawyer. I got worried that I missed some complications. I kept checking my paper work. No problem. They looked it over and checked the documents. A few weeks later it was all done. I thought it was a true democracy. Government function was avaialble to any layman. You didn’t need connections or big money to benefit from what Gov offers.

That was from a gov website, nothing to do with a private lawyer.

^I was talking about OP’s $2000. I am sure that wsan’t the fee. Too bad fees have gone up so much.

Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status I-485 $985. (Add $85 biometric fee for a total of $1070, where applicable.

Supplement A to Form I-485 I-485 Supplement A $1,000

Plus additional expenses for having a doctor fill out the required medical certifications and other hoops that must be jumped through.

If everyone with lost mail sued the postal service, they’d be in the red for a billion dollars. Oh, wait. :p

Its funny how people criticize us for wanting to sue the postal service, my family doesn’t make big buck like most people here does but we are not poor either yet money is still tight for us we can’t afford to spend another $2000+ on a new green card. also I won a free academics a trip to Ireland, wales end England for June what if I don’t get it on time? this is also a loss for me. the reason we wanted to sue not because we wanted millions of dollar but we just needed a full refund.

I don’t think you realize how time consuming and expensive it is to sue. It is a last resort way of settling thing, not a first resort.

Best is to call people, explain your situation, even pay a bit extra for rush delivery if that is available. Sometimes things just get lost, no matter who is at fault. Just keep bugging people, show your panic, tell them you need it immediately. But an actual lawsuit is a huge, expensive pain. And of course they’re not going to charge you another 2K just to get another copy of your card. Just be assertive and figure out what you need to do to get another copy, ASAP. Trust me,it will not involve a lawsuit.

sosomenza in case you want to know I won various competition for my school which make then look good in the areas, I volunteer at the hospital, house for old people , soup kitchen, oh one day I gave lunch to a homeless guy and 30 dollar from my own savings (I can’t remember the last time I got 30 dollar). I persuade my school to go green and install some solar panel to power various electronics device at school. I could keep on going so on and so on but I not here to expose my accomplishments.

thank you busdriver11 and those who actually post a useful comment. we filled for a new green card but immigration said to wait two more week to see if the post will deliver it. if it we don’t get it by then they will process a new one.

Maybe they’re just really slow. I hope if they process a new one that they will do a rush order for you. Seems like they ought to if it didn’t get there the first time, plus it makes me wonder if they messed up and never sent it at all!

It’s actually because I’m poor that I’ve learned how to utilize google. It amazes me what people will pay for when you can do it quicker and easier yourself (and free!) by using google or something similar. It’s a wonderful life skill to have.

I love googling things on my iphone. It is so handy when someone is completely talking out of their rear end, if you know what I mean…and you can say, “Hey wait, let’s not argue about this, let’s just google it. Looks like you’re wrong!”
