Can one sue a postal service if they had their green card ship to them by homeland security and the postal service lost it?

Probably not since it’s free to replace: [USCIS - I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card](http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=b3f7ab0a43b5d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD)

No, you would have no case. If HS insured the package, they could probably collect on whatever they insured it for, but as the recipient, you’d have no claim. Sorry.

Why would you sue? You get the green card replaced for free. Are you going to sue for the cost of a stamp?

Now that’s litigious.

How can your prove you mailed it? And to the correct address? Did you send it certified? Overnight?

I could say I send something, but how can I prove I actually put in the mail box?

Oh good grief. Seriously?!

bd, clearly for pain and suffering ;)

In addition, you could get a painful paper cut while handling another envelope.

thanks you romanigypsyeyes I feel better now that I know that its free to get a new one and I meet all criteria.

in case you all want to know well my parent were going to sue the postal service because the green cost them around $2000 with all expense. now that they know its free its not necessary anymore. but still we will have to wait three more month.

I hope you’re bringing something to the U.S. besides a lawsuit.

^^ No kidding.

you inspired me to sue my cat for scratching my arm and causing me to bleed.

I may sue for the time lost reading this thread…

^we need a “like” button

I’m glad you will be able to replace it for free. You must have been very upset when you thought your family had spent $2,000 on something that was lost.

Welcome to America, where we sue before a 20 second google search. Seriously, it took me less than a minute to find that.

workHaRd12 - If we continue down the path of all these silly lawsuits, then the America you chose to work or study in will no longer exist.

Welcome to America - the land where not everything goes according to plan. Maybe things worked more smoothly in your home country. In this country, mistakes and accidents happen - and we love living here anyway.

Usually things can be worked out by a phone call or two. You just have to call a couple of times if you don’t get satisfaction, and yes, a Google search does wonders. It is way too much effort to sue, the lawyer ends up with most of the money anyways.
