Sugar in prepared foods

I’ve always had an aversion to diet foods and drinks because of the horrible chemical aftertaste. It seems to me that lately I get that horrible aftertaste from things that aren’t supposed to be diet or sugar free. Some Starbucks drinks, prepared baked goods, gum, etc.

Are more companies using sugar substitutes, that aren’t considered diet, in place of regular sugar? Is it a less expensive alternative? Or should I just add change in taste buds to my many peri menopausal symptoms?

Are you taking any new medications? Certain medications can change the way some things taste. One I take made a favorite soda taste lousy. No big loss. I took it as an opportunity to cut it out of my diet and now drink primarily water. I avoid artificial sweeteners if I possibly can and keep sugar in general to a minimum.
