Suggest some board games for young adults?

They like to play Settlers of Catan and a couple others I can’t remember during our Christmas Eve gathering. This is a crowd ranging from college sophomore through late 20s, with parental hangers-on who might join in. I want to be the cool aunt and give/introduce a new game this year. Do you have ideas?

Ticket to Ride and Splendor both keep my college age kids amused. The former takes longer to play than the latter (45-60 mins vs 10-15 mins per game)

Monopoly is an oldie but goodie!

Jenga is fun.

Code Names

Ah, Code Names! That’s another one they like.

Thanks for the suggestions–I welcome more, and I will check them out in the next couple of days.

https://boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame has a list of board games.

7 Wonders is a favorite among our kids and extended clan.

I second Ticket to Ride and Splendor (mentioned earlier). I also think Dominion and/or King of Tokyo could be good options.

We play Dominion pretty much non-stop when the kids are home. It’s by far and away my favorite. The board game Tokaido is fun and has a pretty board. Also liked Ethos last holiday.

Lol, we laugh and have fun with Balderdash. It’s become our Xmas game. (We do it without the board, just score on our own.) One kiddo is so good at it. Her bf won’t play Monopoly, it makes him so anxious. Go figure.

There was a long thread on this last year. Lots of good suggestions.

Terraforming Mars is the most loved among my young adults. They taught us to play and it’s fun. It’s like Settlers of Catan on steroids. (That’s how they explained it to us. )

Apples to Apples, or the more snarky Cards Against Humanity

We have a new one called Pandemic which we like; it’s like Risk but simpler and everyone is on the same team. Also, Avalon is a huge favorite, it’s more about talking and trying to deceive and figure out who is who. Avalon is quick and easy and depends on how much bluffing people like to do.

If your teens like slightly complicated strategy games (like Catan), Betrayal at House on the Hill is really fun. You all work together until a random event, then one player turns into the villain and everyone else must work against him/her, with fun, imaginative and creepy scenarios.

We still like the classics…Clue, Risk, Game of Life.

My 21 year old bought this for an apt gift for her roommates and it’s a big hit. Sounds like a quick not complicated but fun party game. Good for most ages. Bob Ross seems to be “a person of interest” in a funny way to young adults!

Correction - the game is Ethnos. I don’t like cooperative games like Pandemic - I find one person takes over and everyone just does what he or she says. Also don’t like Avalon and other Mafia type games. I know lots of people do though.

Betrayal in the House reminds me of the game they made for Battlestar Gallactica. Game play was too long to be as much fun as we would have liked, but the structure of the game really captured the feeling of the show. In the beginning only a few people know they are Cylons, but half way through the game the sleeper Cylons wake up.

Are there any funny conversation starter card games? Something with really off beat questions?

@TatinG if you happen to have a Nintendo Switch console,JackBox game bundle is of this nature and absolutely hilarious.

@abasket, my DH bought the Bob Ross game at Target last year (we are family fans of the show and follow along with the paintings). I told him we would never play, and one year later it is still in the wrapping. Maybe knowing that it is a “party game” will help…I figured it was more a gimmick and based on his name and the game probably wouldn’t actually be any fun!
