Suggestions and advice por favor?

I just got back from visiting the U of C through the Students of Color open house program and fell in love with the college. I know no one on here can really evaluate my “chances”. But am I moving along the right track?

ESSAYS
I know essays basically make or break you here, so would anyone (a non 08-er, of course) please read my “Borges y yo essay” and “Why Chicago” essay? the former is about balance and is a bit odd, and the latter is just how I fit into Chicago. PM me and let me know.

Thanks so much!

Very strong chance! your AP scores are amazing. Small town Georgia, AA female= you are likely to be admitted if you state to U. Chicago that it is your first choice.

19 views and no responses. come on people!

I think you’re an extremely strong candidate for admission, simply by considering your academic record and involvement. Additionally, you’ve visited the school and you fell in love with it-- I think that for people who tend to “click” with Chicago, Chicago “clicks” back.

Chicago is also interested in increasing its enrollment of ethnic minority students… the Class of 2011 is the most ethnically diverse class we’ve ever had, and it looks like we want that trend to continue.

unalove, I know from your past posts that you are a Chicago student. ^could you please read my long essay? I just need a quick second opinion.

sure, PM it.

Just got Oct. test scores back

CR: 730
Math: 590
Writing: 700

What do you guys think?

Your total is better than mine was. I’ll tell you that.

Chicago also, apparently (Libby said it way back on one of the threads at the top of the forum) SAT forgiving, and an admittance or denial will not depend on them. That certainly explains my scenario-- my scores were solid, but from a College Confidential/ elite college point of view, they were horrendous. Needless to say, I had other things going for me as an applicant and my application demonstrated talent in reading, math, and writing, thus “overriding” the scores I got.

Your scores suggest that you’re a strong reader/writer and not as strong in math (your grades and recommendations may prove otherwise), but for core, there are simpler options for students not as strong in math/science. There aren’t simpler core options for students who are not as strong in reading and writing. That’s a roundabout way of saying that your math score probably won’t be an issue, even though it is lower than the given midrange.

wow thanks for the detailed post unalove! Yeah I make good grades in math class at school (solid B+ to A- range) My math/science rec is from my ap bio teacher though…I just sent in my app for EA on Saturday, so we’ll see…

anyone else with comments or suggestions?

I also think you look like a strong candidate - best wishes in the long wait until mid December!

thanks guys!
