Suggestions for a visit to Prague

<p>I will be able to spend the weekend in Prague over the next few weeks and am looking for any suggestions.</p>

<p>OH PRAGUE!!! My favorite!! (& I’ve been to 20+ countries). Must tour the castle - climb the winding stone steps to the tower. You’ll never see anything like that in the U.S. (lawsuits would prevent people from taking the trek for that magnificent view!). The remains of “Good King Wencelas” are on display there. Changing of the guard is neat b/c their uniforms were designed by the costume designer for the film “Amadeus”. </p>

<p>And DON"T MISS the 15th century clock - tells the time in multiple ways (phases of the moon, zodiac, etc. an incredible feat of design!). I believe I read that the designer of the clock was blinded by the king after its creation (1414 I think) so he couldn’t make another for someone else. During the chiming (3:00 p.m. IIRC) lifesize carvings of the apostles actually parade around the tower & look at the crowd!).</p>

<p>We stayed in an apt in the Jewish Quarter with a great view of the castle in one direction and the clock tower in the other. Spectacular at night! Check out the Jewish Cemetery (thousands of graves piled on top of eachother due to minimal space allotment - very dramatic).</p>

<p>Be sure to sample the Pilsner beer (Prague is near the Pils River lending its name to that type of light, delicious brew). Check out the hand cut crystal - so beautiful & reasonably priced. The marionettes found at the market (Sat a.m. I think) are fun, cheap purchases.</p>

<p>The food was great we thought, and during our trip the dollar was so strong I kept thinking the decimal was misplaced on our bill. Most people speak English.</p>

That’s all I can remember right now. Prague is awesome - I’m jealous! :)</p>
