Suggestions for Application List

Few awards worth mentioning.
Interested in Computer Engineering.</p>

<p>Currently I have 10 schools on my list.</p>

Yale
Northwestern
Northeastern
Case Western
Boston U
Ohio State
Michigan
Miami (Ohio)</p>

<p>Does it seam like I have covered a good range of schools? What chance do I have at the upper tier schools?
Are there any schools you would suggest that I look at? I would like to stay in the Northeast or Great Lakes regions.</p>

<p>I think you are a big reach for the top schools based on the info you’ve supplied. What can your family afford? UMich will be full pay if you are OOS. Do you consider Miami your safety?</p>

<p>I live in Michigan. Miami is my safety.
I’m not overly optimistic on being accepted to even a majority of these schools, but I feel like I won’t be stranded either.</p>

<p>UMIch will cost ~$25K in-state. It looks like you would get 1/2 to full tuition from Miami [University</a> Merit Scholarships | Miami Scholarships | Scholarships | High School Students | Financial Aid | Admission | Miami University](<a href=“http://www.miami.muohio.edu/admission/finaid/high-school/scholarships/miami-scholarships/merit.html]University”>Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University) which would be $11-25K. Hopefully your parents can afford that.</p>

<p>Did you take SAT IIs?</p>

<p>I think your odds are pretty good at Northeastern, BU, Case Western. MIT, CMU, Yale - well those are longshots for everyone.</p>

<p>Why Yale instead of Cornell or Columbia? </p>

<p>Did you consider RPI, U.Rochester, Syracuse, RIT - these would all be targets or safeties.</p>

<p>U.Michigan is very highly ranked in computer engineering - no need to really go elsewhere :-)</p>

<p>Too bad you haven’t taken SAT IIs. You could consider taking 2 in October, say Math II and whatever science you took last year. You would have time to brush up using the official study guide with real tests.</p>

<p>I agree with BeanTownGirl in general. Perhaps you should also take a look at Pitt, VT, and GATech. If you want to add a school to give yourself more choices, why not Michigan State?</p>

<p>Something that you did not address is course rigor…</p>

<p>I am planning to switch Yale to Columbia on my common app.</p>

<p>Course rigor: I took every advanced class my school offers (English and Sciences) and I am currently taking Calculus, Physics 2, Adv. English, and as a dual enrolled student, English Comp.</p>

<p>I am signed up to take the SAT II’s on October 6th. I wish I’d have taken them before, I didn’t realize that they would be necessary. </p>

<p>I have considered Rochester and RPI. I am a medalist for RPI, so I visited the campus. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it. Thanks for all the suggestions! I will definitely take them into account.</p>
