Well if Oprah is saying buy $200 jeans, I have less fear of being flamed for agreeing. I’m a big believer in that you get what you pay for. The reason some of these jeans are so expensive is they simply put in the labor to design and manufacture them to look good on you.

I’d rather have one pair of great jeans than 5 pairs of average ones.

So Macy’s carries NYDJ jeans? I wonder if they carry them at the “smaller” Macy’s. I don’t recall ever seeing them…but maybe I wasn’t looking, or just passed by the $100 pricetag. I prefer to go to the Macy’s “close by” (15 miles) but that’s a small store.

Guess I need to ck out Old Navy.
I have never had a butt, jag jeans work well for me most of the time. I think they are changing the sizing. The larger size I have on now fits better than the new “smaller” size I bought a few months back. I gave away my NYDJ to sister because I hated them, they kept slipping down–she was thrilled and I no longer had a pair too expensive to throw out.
Found a nice pair at Costco (CK, I think) for <$25 today :).

I am now the proud owner of my first pair of NYDJ’s. I ran over to Macy’s this afternoon and after searching the entire store, I finally found them mixed in with all the junior size jeans. I tried on several styles and found one that fit me perfectly! Thanks for all your help.

(I think everything in the store was on sale EXCEPT for the NYDJ’s)

Jeans are hard. I have tried on the same size jeans at nordstroms for over an hour! But quality control (lack of)made sizing very uneven.
they are all about fit.
I have a short waist- and long legs for my height. I still wear 501s,but usually for work not for dress.
I dont wear jeans for dress, seems an oxymoron, but when you are covered in soil much of the time it is nice to dress up .
I don’t like jeans that have holes or artificial wear marks, I can do that myself thank you and is II****es me off when a jean that fits me perfectly has “wear” creases in the upper thigh.
costs $50 more cause it looks like it is used ! do they think we are idiots?
why would we pay extra for demin that looks likit has been run over by a truck?

I have bought all styles and price ranges of jeans. I have some good-fitting jeans from Limited (to my surprise) and also like AG jeans (Oprah liked them before she got huge again). Madewell (they have stand-alone stores) are good, too. Gap has really improved their denim quality. Old Navy you have to watch the quality.

I used to love Levi’s shrink to fit 501’s. They would last forever.

They literally don’t make them that well, anymore. I bought a couple pairs a few years back and they didn’t feel the same, look the same or wash the same. Different kind of denim? Different construction? Not sure. The quality was definitely different, though.

Ha!!! I totally agree! I like to buy them dark blue and new; by the time I’m done, they are faded and starting to get holes… Why would I pay more to have them shorten the life of my clothes??? ;)

Does anyone remember when jeans first became fashionable – I guess this was in the mid-'60s – and you could only buy them new and pristine – and stiff? It took absolutely months and months of hard wear and hard washing to get them to soften up and start to fit really well. What’s wrong with hurrying up the process? It works for me.

I like David Kahn Jeans and Citizens of Humanity, in a dark wash. I have had several pairs that have lasted for years and still look good. I wash them in the machine in cold water on delicate, and then put them in the dryer on low until they are almost, but not completely, dry. Then I hang them up over a railing until they dry. When I don’t want to spend as much, I buy Gap jeans.

I remember getting a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans in the mid-70’s and treating them like fine slacks. I sent them to the cleaners, for goodness sakes! I also weighed ten pounds less and they were sized larger than the jeans I wear now - another example of vanity sizing.

If you’re (ahem) curvy, try Banana Republic Jackson fit jeans. I have 4 pair in various styles and they all fit terrifically. I buy 2 pair of a style at a time - one for heels and one for flats. They run a little big, so I go down a size.

I bought the CJ jeans and liked them, but not as much as my Banana Republic jeans, so ended up returning them. I haven’t tried NYDJ, but I might do that now after all the recommendations.

I wash my dark jeans inside out in cold water and hang them to dry. I also smooth out the legs while they are still wet. I touch-up press them inside out, if necessary, otherwise, a hot iron will take out the color along the seams.
