Suggestions for Safeties...

I think I have a general idea of what my reach schools are going to be. However, I want some ideas as to what some worthwhile safeties would be. I am already in a great day school right now, and I don’t want to go overseas for a small delta.

My stats are competitive, I’m not going to go into great detail as it won’t make any significant difference.

wait-- you are principalviola, right? Didn’t you already apply and get accepted at a bunch of Hades?

:( Yea, and I was supposed to be going to Milton, but then… we moved to India and my parents didn’t want to be overseas. Don’t want to even go there…

For safeties I was thinking Taft, is that crazy? And for high match/low reach, Choate.

If you were already accepted at several of the HADES schools, why are you asking about safeties? Taft as a safety? Is this a joke?

South Kent

Because there is a 80% chance that I won’t get accepted, so I want a school to which I will get accepted…

St. Josephs
St. Joseph’s Boys’ Anglo-Indian Hr. Secondary School, a Residential & Day School, which is often called St. Joseph’s College, was founded in 1888 by the Brothers of St. Patrick. It stands amidst beautiful surroundings on the crest of a hill 6,000 feet above sea level, just a few minutes walk from both Coonoor and Wellington Railway stations in Nilgiris, South India

SelaQui World School
Located about 20 kms from Dehradun city, capital of Uttaranchal State, SelaQui World School is the only fully boarding school in the northern hills stretching from Shimla to Nainital including Dehradun and Mussoorie that offers IB Diploma program of International Baccalaureate. SelaQui is an exclusively a boarding school and hence does not accept day scholars. As an international, co-educational residential school, it offers seperate and modern hostels for girls and boys, one of its kind in India. Uttaranchal is a region of outstanding natural beauty, with Himachal Pradesh to the west and Uttar Pradesh in the south.

Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School
BGIS - One of the top Boarding Schools in India. ISKCON Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School (BGIS) is a primary and secondary boarding school for boys, Grades 3 - 12 located in Vrindavan, India (Near New Delhi). The school was founded in 1976 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON.What a wonderful experience that would be for you.

I don’t want to go to BS in India, for various reasons… Not the least being that I wouldn’t get in. Indian schools (well, unless they are IB of course) follow the ICSC board method of teaching, which is not something I can jump right into.

By the way, the Doon School (a member of a consortium of schools worldwide, including Deerfield and Andover) is probably the best boarding secondary school in India, by a large margin. It is also IB and in the same region as SelaQui World School, so SelaQui is clearly not the only school within that region which offers IB.

For some reason, forgive me if I’m wrong, I get the feeling that you are being sarcastic with me…

[Maharishi Academy of Total Knowledge](http://www.maharishiacademy.org/)

Principalv, it depends on whether you will apply for FA this year. If you don’t apply for FA, and if you were accepted by all hades plus milton as you said, then don’t worry you will be admitted by at least one of them this year. If you apply for FA from India, depending on how much FA you need, you may need to re-evaluate your situation - Choate is not even close to your safety.

Thanks, and no, I’m not applying as FA.

I never expected Choate to be a safety (actually I wouldn’t find it insane at all to get rejected), just as a high match, low reach.

Are you in India at the moment? Are you attending school? Do you speak Hindi?

Yes. Yes. No (Telugu and Kannada). Hindi is more of a North Indian language (well, and Bombay) whereas the languages I speak are more south.

You mentioned your parents did not want you overseas. Now that your over there and if Jordan is not too far away, I could possibly get you in at Abdullah’s new BS King’s Academy which is mirrored after Deerfield. That way you could think of your self at a so called tier 1(as much as I dislike the labeling) and get awesome diversity and still stay over there.

Ahh, OK, thanks. I looked at the one in Jordan (King’s academy, right?). I’ll look into greater detail.

Edit: My problem with the secondary independent education outside of the US is that it tends not to be meritocratic. US is the one country in which you can go to a highly acclaimed HIGH SCHOOL (not college) and still be from a relatively poor (as opposed to the Rajas and Sultans and what not) background. The Doon School (probably the best high school in India and highly respected within my family… and a member of the group that King school is in and Deerfield, and what not) still does not serve the purposes of the Indian poor (or even the Indian middle class… only the rich of the rich).

That is the fundamental reason for which I want to go to the United States.

Poser much? I think the entire cc community has already determined that you’re a ■■■■■, a poser, and a dude who can’t keep his facts straight.

Get a life please.

PrinciaplV: Not to be rude or anything, but isn’t the term “Mumbai” now? I don’t want to be semantic and all, it’s just that I’m from India and it always annoys me that people call Mumbai Bombay–especially people from India. :)

Anyhow, good luck! Why don’t you look into Mahindra? It’s a UWC.

I know, it is. Then again no one calls Bangalore Bengaluru, and that is the specific term. I’ll be more careful with that next time, lol.

You are Principal Viola??? You seem more different now…:(

I’m just overly stressed. See what an international move does to you, still in the hotel.

Was that aimed at me?
