Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. The machine’s case has a velcro strap that can go around most luggage handles. I’m just casually looking around right now, but would love any suggestions. It has to be able to support that machine on top of it and be a 4-8 wheeled piece becaue airline aisles are so ridiculously narrow and this is primarily for flying, mostly domestically but may be taken on international trips as well.
In the bag will store 4 lithium ion batteries for the machine–probably weighing about 1.5 pounds each, some cords and connectors, and a jacket or sweater in the bag primarily, plus maybe a change of clothes, my iPad mini, my purse, charger cables, and things for the plane. I’d prefer to pay under $100, but could got higher if folks have great recommendations. Reviews I have been reading make me nervous about quality of luggage these days, which is why I’m thinking of a less expensive bag. If the quality if amazing, I could pay up to $400.
I plan to check out Costco and Ross and TJMaxx and Nordstrom’s Rack as well, just to see in person what’s out there that might serve my needs.
Thanks–nope, not a spinner and probably would not take well to having to support a 11.5 pound machine. Will keep looking. Did look at LLBean’s website last night. I may end up just getting a GOOD portable luggage cart that is similiar to the one I have now.
More than $100 but check Tumi. Also, you might want to check a computer briefcase roller. Some are very roomy…am is are more box shaped which might better support your machine. Plus the insides are padded for protection.
When my husband traveled on business, he has one, and and in addition to all of his business “stuff” computer, and notebooks, he was also able to take a full change of business clothes. His wasn’t a spinner, but I believe they make spinners now.
I think if it’s lower to the ground so that the 11.5 pound machine is closer to the wheelbase, it will be more stable and less likely to tip because its topheavy. Many of the underseat pieces are soft-sided, which are more likely to be damaged from supporting a 11.5 pound machine. Many of the underseat pieces are also only two wheels and not 4 wheeled spinners. I am concerned about the narrow aisles, which is why I’d prefer a spinner.
Thanks–will look at that in our luggage shop to see if it would support the weight of the machine. That is a big hurdle that a lot of the sofsided pieces may not overcome well, especially if they have a stoped top, like this one appears to.
That gets awkward because I will need to use the machine ON THE FLIGHT, so I’d have to unpack it if it were put in the bag and is really not something that makes any sense to me.
Right now, I have the machine on it’s own luggage cart plus two waist packs above it strapped to the luggage cart (they hold the batteries, cords, tubing and miscellanous stuff for the machine). I also have a rollerboard suitcase I bring and a backpack with a jacket for in-plane use. We have used the luggage cart since 2008, and are not sure how much longer it will continue to function, so have been starting to think of alternatives or replacement options.
Happily, I found a folding luggage cart by Cloudz for $14.99 that seems to be idea for toting the machine and it’s accessories. The normal price is $42 online but Amazon.com is currently out of stock and had mixed (but mostly positive) reviews. It will be a good cart for airports and hotels but not good for rugged off-road/national park use (for which we already have a cart with larger wheels and bigger base. Happily the base of this cart folds down to have a long enough platform that I can place the machine sideways to get through narrower airline aisles, which is a good thing.
I was surprised that this was THE ONLY luggage cart I found at Ross, Macy’s, Nordstrom’s Rack and TJMaxx (where I purchased it). I guess so many folks are using wheeled pieces that a separate luggage cart is not as popular an item these days.
@Himom, I was at Nordstrom Rack and TJMaxx today, at Ward Center! Wonder if we saw each other and didn’t even know it?! I actually bought a bag at TJMaxx to carry my snorkel and dive gear. (And while I was trying to shop fast to make my plane back to Kauai, got a semi-frantic call from DS about a computer problem he is having (needs warranty claim and I have the info in my email since I bought the computer).)
Hope you’re having an awesome time in our state. I was at those Ward stores this afternoon! It made me so happy to find a cart that should work perfectly! Glad you caught your plane and rescued your S.
