Suggestions needed -- any clever or cute gifts for animal-lovers?

Yes, it’s last minute, but I am trying to come up with something other than a calendar . . .

If they are dog lovers, and you have a Sur La Table near you, you can pick this up:

I got one for each of my daughters to put in their stockings.

A can of Spot Shot or Bissell’s Ewww Spray  Seriously - if someone gave me either, I’d be happy.

We gave our friend two washable fleece throws for her cats. She was over the moon about them because she no longer has to compete with the cats for the throw on the couch. :)

Costco sells them for about $12 apiece in the store or 2-pack for $30 delivered (no longer an option for you, I guess):

One of those pet hair remover rollers.
I also just bought a new throw for the dog, it’s shearling ( acrylic) on one side and velour fleece on the other.
Kinda tacky looking but he loves it.
The stores have them marked down now. 50% off. I bought it at Fred Meyer.

S bought us tiny flashlight you attach to your dogs collar so they can been seen, too, when you are walking the dog at night.

I have purchased meals for elephants at the elephant sanctuary

Last year we made our favorite pup friend one of the fleece throws for his dog bed - buy fleece from the fabric store, cut to size, clip and tie the edges - bought the fleece of their alma mater - they and the pup love it!!! Takes an hour or two at the most to make.

Well, since you asked!

I have fridge magnets in sets of six, car magnets with such sayings as “Dog Taxi” and “Who Rescued Who?” and “Life is Short, Play with your dog”. I have mugs and tee shirts for people with similar sayings. My staff has created pre-made stockings for dogs with toys and treats in a mesh stocking. Not to mention the great toys, beds, treats and miscellaneous stuff for all kinds of pets. There’s an awesome cat tree left.

You might find similar things at your locally owned independent pet store.

^This.

Thanks @BunsenBurner‌! Feeling really beat up right now by the people who take hours out of my (working) life asking questions and delving for valuable information and then tell me they can buy it online and get a better deal.

kitty holster harness- works well

Huge animal lover here with 3 different types of animals at home. I would love anything with the animal on it - calendars, flip flops, mugs, etc.

What I would NOT recommend is something for the animal himself/herself, unless you know the owner very well. Most of the stuff people could/would get for my pets, I would have no use for - pet stores sell tons of junk - stuff that’s not species-appropriate and plain unsafe (harnesses and balls for guinea pigs - incredibly dangerous; junk food for dogs; seeds with nasty additives for birds, etc.). So, unless the owner specifically mentioned that a treat/food/toy is safe, I would not get it. Also, and not every pet owner would feel that way, but I would not want anything from a store that sells animals (guinea pigs, rabbits, and others) - I don’t support stores that do, and I wouldn’t want a friend’s hard-earned money to either, at least not if they are shopping for me.

For dogs and cats, maybe a made-in-USA, no additives treat would be OK as a safe bet, but you never know with some dogs and being picky or allergies.

My advice - get something for the owner, not the pet.

They have great socks that have animals on them these days, at a variety of price points.

A suggestion is to identify the animal breed they have and look for collectibles. E.g., my sister-in-law has a dachshund and there’s a host of wiener dog related stuff to buy. My other sister-in-law has chihuahuas and German shepherds so …

I bought this umbrella with the GSD for my sister and another one with the cat for myself. I thought it would be just a novelty item, but these umbrellas survive the Pike and Pine street wind tunnels better than any umbrella I ever owned (sorry, Burnerry!):
