Hi, I’m a current junior who’s making his way through the huge lists of possible colleges/universities to apply to for the future. I have an interest in both STEM and the humanities, so I want to do a double major, most likely English/Chemistry. I just want more freedom with my choices, I guess (though if I’m seriously making a huge mistake, please tell me lol.)
Right now, I have a list of colleges that mostly consist of liberal arts colleges (though with some significant exceptions), but I found that most of them are reaches (10-20+ % admissions). Places like UChicago, Northwestern, Bowdoin, Carleton, etc. So, I really need to find some good safeties/matches.
Definitely don’t want to turn this into a chance thread, but just to give you guys an idea of what could be a match/safety, I have a 2200+ (possibly 2300+, scores haven’t come back yet) SAT, 3.87/4.7 GPA, and rather sparse EC’s.

If scores haven’t come back yet how do you know you have a 2200+? Run the SuperMatch engine on the left side of this page. A safety should be affordable. Go to the Financial Aid forum and look at the pinned threads for some potential full tuition scholarship schools.
St. Olaf, Whitman, Bates, Colby, Denison, Lawrence University, St. Lawrence, Dickinson are schools worth a look that could be a mix of safeties and matches.
@Erin’s Dad: I retook the SAT - I got a 2200+ the first time, but I’m hoping for a 2300+ on the retake.

I know I have some potential full tuition scholarships in regards to NMF (unless the cut-off inexplicably rises a few points…) but I feel like tuition is less of a problem for me and my family than environment/opportunities at the school/experience.
McGill University offers a unique program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts and Sciences. You double major in a science field and a social sciences/humanities field.
IF your test scores are as you predict, McGill would be a safety.
Woah, Canada! I hadn’t been considering school in countries outside of the US, but to be honest, I’ve thinking a bit small. Do you know how US students fare there? The Bachelor of Arts and Sciences program sounds really interesting. Do you know of any other schools that offer something like that? I know USC has a scholarship to that effect, but…
Should I be worried about the admission percentage? (I’m assuming it will be lower for US students.) I satisfy the minimum requirements, but I don’t know how much that counts.
Lehigh? Vassar? Goucher? Rhodes? Some small colleges, like Pitzer or New College of Florida, allow students to design their own curricula: that could work for you, too. Reed sounds perfect, although it’s hardly a safety for you. I think Occidental would be pretty likely.

McGill admissions is not holistic. if you are comfortably above the minimum requirements you are in. The student body there is over 10% American.

McGill is not a safety school. You kidding…
Johns Hopkins is still selective but I think is a good place for double major in humanities and STEM.
If you have the GPA and SAT/ACT scores required, McGill can be a safety. They do not care about yield protection.
