Suggestions of wine related gifts for a wine enthusiast

Attending a milestone birthday party for a wine enthusiast. Need some gift ideas. Traveling overseas with carry on only, so no bottles of wines. I’ll be drinking lots when I get there…

I already have this as an idea. A personalized coaster set

Looking to you wine enthusiasts out there for some other options. TIA

I love bottle stoppers made from local woods when we travel…if you can find something locally that would be great. We also like our Venturi aerator. That website you shared has a pretty extensive selection of items!

A wine journal? That would be easy to pack!

Have fun!

How about Hugh Johnson’s Annual Wine Guide. 2016 is available now:

Subscription to the Wine Spectator, a wine publication that has reviews of wines, features on wineries and travel destinations. You can get a hard copy (the magazine has beautiful photos) subscription or digital.

Sorry, but I would not get anything related to wine. Chances are, he either already has it, or would not like it. In my experience, wine enthusiasts are VERY opinionated and picky. Plus, it’s very likely that he will receive similar gifts from others, so it may be refreshing to give something different. Just my humble opinion…

If this person gives party those doodads you put around the stems of wineglasses to tell them apart are really useful (Google wine glass charms.) . If the country you are traveling to allows you to bring cheese and crackers, I’d do that.

I’m with @mycupoftea on the wine stuff. Having a few wine enthusiasts in the family, I know they have too much gadgetry and wine related stuff as it is.

And for cheese, most countries have better cheese than we do, unfortunately for us. :frowning:

Our farmer’s market has great cheese.

In a different price ballpark than a set of coasters…

How about a book?

wine picnic back pack

VacuVin wine pump & stoppers. I keep one set in my rollaboard bag for travel.

How about a lovely wood cheese board and cheese knives? We are big wine and cheese people and I have many nice cheese boards I put out for a party or just for us that I have bought all over the world.

Thanks for the suggestions!. Keep them coming. I am liking the stoppers idea along with the coasters. Sadly any knives are out, since we are doing carry on only.

@BunsenBurner, I actually saw something similar to the Coravin link you shared at their home, not quite sure it it was the same thing. Additionally, my gift limit is about $100.

How about a picture book on America’s wine areas? There are some nice ones on Napa and Sonoma County.

If this person doesn’t live in the US, they may not have seen the movies “Sideways” or “Bottle Shock,” two fun/informative films set in California’s wine country. The DVDs would make nice – and very light! – gifts.

Most wine enthusiasts are not wine-themed-accessories enthusiasts, and many already have all the preservation systems, storage devices, corkscrews, wine journals, etc. that they need. I’d recommend a non-wine related gift. Or buy a special bottle when you arrive.

If they love dogs AND wine, check out the Wine Dogs of Australia books. Maybe there’s something similar for the States?
