My son, 11th grade, took the Oct SAT after a fair amount of prep (an August Princeton Review course, and little online tutoring in Sep). He did pretty well: 750CR, 770M, 710W (70 mult choice, 9 essay). He wants to take it again this spring. Obviously, Writing offers the most room for improvement…what do people suggest, please?

The detailed score report shows 3 of 25 wrong on ‘improving sentences’, 1 of 18 wrong on ‘identifying sentence errors’, 0 of 6 wrong on ‘improving paragraphs’. All the wrong answers were considered to be on ‘difficult’ questions, which I suppose means he isn’t making stupid mistakes.

well lucky for him, he got the most wrong on the easiest part of the writing (the improving sentences). These are very easy to learn and many follow the same pattern. So just tell him to do more practice, and he should see an increase. By the way, I increased my W from a 620 to an 800, so he can definitely raise a 710 substantially.
