Suggestions (Schools to start looking into and visiting)?

<p>Hi, I’m a student at the Baccalaureate School for Global Education in Queens, New York. I’m in an IB school and since 9th grade I’ve become increasingly interested in mathematics and the natural sciences and plan to pursue a major in engineering.</p>

<p>Grades: 6’s and 7’s since Freshmen Year. I don’t have a predicted ranking yet. For those unfamiliar with the IB program: 6 = approx. 92-97; 7 = approx 98-100 (These are approximations, I might be wrong)
SAT’s: Expecting 2100+ (Highest practice test was a 2160) 760 math, 690 critical reading, 700 writing
SAT II: Chem Expecting 700+, Math Level II Expecting 750+
Extracurriculars etc:
I’ve been taking private guitar lessons for 3 years (but started 4 years ago on my own)
Piano- Self-taught
Ukelele- Self-taught
Did a summer internship at the Mount Sinai Hospital department of Immunology and was part of a leading study on IgE and IgG proteins. The internship involved everything from serum filing, to preparing cell tissue cultures and other real lab experience.
Did another internship at Innovest Systems, it involved testing databases (writing SQL queries and some minor perl programming)
I write for my school’s newspaper
I’m VP of Research at my school’s ‘Math Club’
Am a member of the mouse squad (computer maintenance)
I created and currently operate and maintain a website with a database of student (mostly myself) produced notes and other information (gets about 80 unique hits a day)
I founded my schools ping pong club, and was involved in organizing the first student run ping pong tournament in my school.
I’m planning on doing another internship this summer at the Cape Cod oceanographic institute. (This will involve more lab work)
I’m also planning on taking a college physics course over the summer because my school removed physics from its curriculum 2 years ago.</p>

<p>Any suggestions on how to better my chances of getting into a great engineering program would be much appreciated.
P.S: I know my test scores aren’t phenomenal but I’m still taking prep and my goal is to break 2200 and get an 800 in at least of of those II’s.</p>

<p>I would look into Brown.</p>

<p>Since Columbia is in NY, you can just look into that school as well (on your doorstep haha). Berkeley also has a good engineering school, so does Upenn. For these schools, also try to take physics SAT subject after you are done with physics in the summer(good idea that you are taking physics even though your school doesn’t offer it). It will make your case stronger. Cool EC’s. I also agree with the person above about Brown.</p>

<p>It really depends on what you want. If you want a big, public school look at Cal or Michigan. If you want small, private schools any Ivy, Caltech, or schools like that. It really does depend on what you want your college experience to be.</p>
