I know i’ve posted something like this before, but this is a bit more specific…:/

Your ECs are very impressive. I’m certain you will be admitted to top universities. How much tuition can you afford, though?

State universities offer little aid so I would cross out universities such as Berkeley, UCLA, UKY, Washington U, and Penn State if budget was a concern.

i can afford upto 45-50k as of now, but any aid would be nice because i need to save for med school because that’s gonna be $$$…if i actually get there…
shahrez

Is that 45-50k a year? If so, Id say you’re in or have a good shot at:
UKY
Washington U
UKY
Uni. of Vermont
Emory
Uni. of Pittsburgh
Penn State
Uni. of Alabama

YeS, 40-50k a year and is there anything I can do to improve my chances at the ivies?
shahrez

^What country do you come from? I think you have a good chance to be accepted into an Ivy. American schools often disregard foreign GPAs and put greater weight on standardized test scores. To add to that, you have spectacular ECs.

My suggestion: get rid of UVM and UKY. Reconsider Williams College because though it’s an excellent school and top LAC, it looks out of place on your list which consists of mostly USN top 20s and major publics.

As for good research unis that could be considered safeties and good for premed, I’d say look into places like Case Western, UCSD, Tulane, URochester, Ohio State, UMiami. All of the private unis I just mentioned are known to offer generous merit aid, but I don’t know if it applies to internationals as well.

i’m from pakistan.

I’ll keep UKY because it’s right beside my aunt’s house so it might help me save me some $$$.

Please tell me you’re NOT going to submit all those LORs…

Why? Should I not?

BUMP…WHY NOT…@QUOMODO.

GPA is 3.3 out of 4.0? That’s not going to get you into most of the top unis on this list, even with top test scores. Your ECs are interesting, but not so exceptional in their substance as to make up for a 3.3. A few great letters of rec will help if these folks really know you well, but what this list of letters really tells me is that your family is politically very connected. I think you need a lot more schools that are ‘match’ for a 3.3.

Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford are all very long shots. Rice, Wash U, Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Emory and Columbia are reaches.

Think about some of the more mid-range schools - or stay in Pakistan for medical school (which I think you indicated was your interest elsewhere) and come to the US later.

They may be, or they may not be. It’s just very hard for an American CC’er to interpret, over the Internet, the significance of that GPA or of those ECs for an international applicant. However, … participation is not the same as significant achievement, which is what Harvard, etc., want to see. Awards, publications, or other tangible evidence of success would lend weight.

Sorry, but this raises my skepticism. Your ambition is wonderful but you may need to work pretty hard to convince an admission committee that there is real substance here, not just a hair-brained idea and some late-night reading. There is nothing wrong with the latter … just don’t make it out to be more if you cannot back it up.

I suggest you consider some solid small liberal arts colleges (like Williams but less selective). Look at the top 30 or 40 LACs on the USNWR list. These schools are often eager for more international applicants and willing to offer generous scholarships to attract them. Plan to provide 2 or 3 good LORs by adults who know you well and can speak knowledgeably about your character, activities, achievements, or potential (not necessarily people with the most impressive-sounding titles).

Your scores are impressive. Good luck.

I’m not Quomodo, but the majorityof American schools require 3 recommendations maximum. I wouldn’t send that many - it may backfire on you, and admissions committees may not even read 10 recommendations if they have already read the first few.

Oh ok. I’ll just pick 3. thanks btw
