Suggestions?

GPA: 3.67 Unweighted, 4.01 Weighted (All Honors and 4 AP)
SAT: 1990 (Math:720 Reading:630 Writing:640)
ACT: Not Taken Yet
Extracurriculars: High School and Club Baseball, FCA, Co-Editor School Newspaper, Spanish National Honor Society, Random Part-Time Jobs, Coach Church League Basketball Team, Other Community Service.
Other: I go to a very academically challenging high school. White, upper middle class. Have been recruited by several D1 Baseball teams so that can help me get it/ pay tuition. Would like to stay in the South or East Cost, but I have family throughout the Mid-West so that’s an option. Rank in the top 15% of my class. I am currently a junior. Want to major in Political Science, History, or English then go to a good Law School.
Thanks

What is your home state and what can your family afford?

North Carolina and up to 30 a year. I can get some knocked down with baseball.

If you’d consider a smaller college, Rhodes might be an option. Stats are a match, large contingent of alumni in law, good pre-law advising and law school admit rate, strong in Poli Sci, History, and English, and a strong D3 baseball program with some funding behind it.

Your stats and academic interests match my son pretty well. He attends Wake Forest and loves it. However, it’s not very generous with aid, so it may be out of your budget, even with an athletic scholarship. Take a look, though. The baseball coach seems like a nice guy…he donated a kidney to one of his players.

A less expensive alternative might be Elon.

What do you mean recruited by D1 schools and for what position? D1 schools can only offer 11.7 scholarships so you’re probably still looking at paying a substantial amount yourself although it sounds like your family can afford it. You have the stats to get good merit money at smaller schools like Rhodes. You need to decide if school size is important to you and how much of a commitment you want to make to baseball.
[11.7 Reality Check](http://diycollegerankings.com/2011/06/23/11-7-reality-check/)

thanks for all the responses. I’ve looked at Wake and Elon and both schools seem really nice. I play outfield (I know all the money goes to pitchers lol) and by recruited mean have had coaches contact me and my coaches about my grades, character etc. Also any public schools in Carolina to look at because they are a lot less expensive than most D3 or private schools. And are my listed majors good for going into law school?

If you find a D3 that you’re interested in, don’t assume you can’t afford it until you talk to the financial aid office and/or get an offer. Virtually no one pays sticker price.

All three of the majors you listed are common for students pursuing law school. If you have interest in coprorate law, business or econ is another choice.

Maybe Stetson or Rollins? You would probably get both baseball and academic money out of them.

gaguy, I was reading your thread, and right from the top I was wondering why posters were not suggesting your instate school options. If we lived in NC our kids would have attended one of them. You are very lucky to have some wonderful public school options at very good prices.

You can major in virtually anything for law school. I know someone who majored in something relating to pharmacy and then went to law school, and someone else who was a dance major and went to law school.

How about looking at UNC-W, or UNC-A, ECU to start with? Frankly, I don’t see a problem with attending nearly any of the 4 year universities in NC. Good luck!

Thanks. Question aren’t most D3 schools LAC’s?

I think most Div 3 schools are LACs.
