Suicide and choices

It’s a pretty good thread title [giveup].

I was thinking about writing about one of my favorite books for a particular essay. The problem is, the main character is depressed throughout the book and kills himself in the end. The book caused a rash of suicides across Europe following its publication. Would it be a bad idea to write about such a book? Because I have a lot of other favorites, some of which (namely those by Russians) might say more about the types of books I usually choose to read.

If you can tie it into what you are trying to convey and elaborate on, I think you’ll be fine.

Are you talking about “The sorrows of young Werther”? :D
