I didn’t write full essays - I wrote about a paragraph for each. I think asking half a dozen full page essays for a single application would be kinda ridiculous, so I wouldn’t stress too much.
How many pages and how many questions did you end up solving?
What about you?
My stats:
SAT 1480, SAT 2 math 800
3 time AIME qualifier
most recent AMC 12 score: 109.5
made AMC 10 DHR in freshman year
(I think my hard stats may fall in the middle range of applicants)
went to COSMOS math cluster last summer, so had math research experience
I run NHS and math club at my school. I got rec from my physics teacher and COSMOS professor
(didn’t get a math teacher rec cuz I didn’t take math at school this year)
took calc BC last year as a sophomore, 5/5 on AP, took MV calc last fall, had all A’s in math classes
UW GPA 3.96 (had a B in PE), weighted 4.4, (which i think isn’t too bad), class rank 3
solved 5.5 problems, i didnt spend a whole lot of paper writing stuff, so only 11 pages total
as for my essays, i dont think i wrote the best ones. i only wrote 1 long paragraph for most prompts.
I think my chance of getting in is about 30-40%. Good luck to myself and everyone who applied!
I got in last year. I would definitely say the essays and the admissions exam are the most important part of the application. Even though many people who get in do qual for AIME/USAMO, there are plenty who don’t so I wouldn’t worry too much if you don’t have much competition experience.
And louisgarder there were 16 juniors and 23 seniors last year, but I think it changes year to year.
Are recommendations weighted not as heavily as the other two components (problems and essays) then?
Does anyone know when the results are announced?
april 17th is the current official release date
Was that information on the website?
Now that creates a big dilemma about where to pay for COSMOS (deadline April 12) and loose the fee (and a chance to apply again next year) while waiting for SuMAC decision.
@ablejoy I’m in the same situation as you. I’m probably going to pay the COSMOS deposit and risk it. What COSMOS cluster did you get into?
UCSC Cluster 1. I am also planning to risk the deposit. The bigger thing is losing the eligibility to apply for COSMOS next year again.
Maybe you should explain to them about the deposit and ask when the results are coming out by email
Here is the official mail sent by Stanford regarding the dates of the decision:
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out. We are expecting to release admission decisions for the Stanford University Mathematics Camp in mid-late April.
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies Staff
How did people here do 80 pages for their solutions? I solved all of them and only used 13.
I had about the same, but I’m thinking proofs and whatnot could have been more formal/thorough? I have very little experience in proofwriting, and though I explained all my answers, I didn’t do it particularly “formally” (i.e. if there’s any standard proof convention, I didn’t follow it)
(oops idk what happened) Are the results still coming out on April 17th?
Good luck to all of you. Also, will we get an email or should we check the application portal?
Also, I solved all of them except 5)c), I’m wondering if I still have a shot. Do any alumni know how many questions you need to be admitted? I’ve found conflicting reports on this site.
when is the result release date?
