SuMAC Financial Aid?

How’s the financial aid for SuMAC? I want to apply for next year, but there’s no way my family can pay the full 6K price tag, and if we don’t get any financial aid, there’s no point in my applying. Our income bracket is 100K, and we’re already paying for my sister’s medical school tuition (she can’t contribute at all, since it’s in India and they don’t have proper breaks; it costs about the same as regular med school since she’s a NRI). My dad hasn’t worked for the past 6 years (he used to be an electrical engineer, but he has heart disease and isn’t supposed to take much stress), so all the income is from my mom.

Will we get any financial aid?

I don’t think it is likely that you will get financial aid as your income bracket is 100K and they have specifically discouraged people >60K from asking for aid, but you can try your best by explaining your circumstances and asking as much less aid as possible (since SUMaC is a great program).

General info:
I don’t know for sure, but my general impression is that they are good at financial aid (for <60K). Two internationals I know got large (80-90%) financial aid. An guy(non-international) said that his financial aid app got rejected but he came anyways.
I don’t know much I only asked/talked about this with 5 or 6 people.

My financial aid email came AFTER my acceptance email (although only half an hour later). Their website clearly mentions that different people look at your financial aid app, not the ones those who see your main app.
One more thing- the deadline for fin aid app is 2 or 3 days later than your main app. I would advise you to spend more time on your problem set and essays.

Conclusion: I think you should fill your financial aid app genuinely (write your special circumstances), and worry more about getting selected than getting financial aid.

Thanks for your input!
