I was reading information regarding Tulane’s graduation requirements and found that to graduate summa cum laude, one need only maintain a 3.8 GPA. Does that seem unusually low to anyone else? Do any current Tulane students know approx. how many people graduate summa cum laude every year?

i don’t think it’s too unusual considering you have to fulfill all of the honors requirements also

Personally, I think a 3.8 seems low for Summa. Generally, summa cum laude incorporates only a tiny top percentage of students in a given major and typically you’d be looking at above a 3.9. So if Tulane only requires a 3.8, yes, that seems low to me too.

The Honors kids I know who are graduating this year said it was too easy. I don’t have stats, but a ton of them are graduating summa or magna. 3.4, 3.6, 3.8 are the cutoffs, and they are lower when compared to other universities.

3.8 GPA + Honors requirements. I don’t know that seems pretty freaking hard unless you have a really easy major.

What are the “honors requirements” aside from occasional enrollment in an honors class and a thesis?

The honors requirements is just FOUR classes plus thesis. It’s made so that you could still get it as a junior and sometimes a senior. They try to prod you in if you have the GPA equivalent. It isn’t hard when compared to other school’s requirements.

The GPA requirement to maintain honors is 3.45 for freshmen and sophomores. 3.6 for juniors and seniors.
