Summer activities outside of robertson Scholars Program?

I’m looking to apply to Duke next year, and I was wondering if the university helps fund summer programs or semesters abroad where one would shadow a physician in a third world country. I was wondering if, outside of getting the Robertson Scholarship, this would happen. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I haven’t heard of any such thing, but I have heard from Duke students that it’s not hard to get funding for extensive community service work like that once you’re at Duke. You can try contacting people/professors at Duke and see what they say, but I doubt that they would do something like that for someone who’s not really at Duke yet. However, you’ve got nothing to lose in trying so I would say, go for it.

Ok, thanks. Yeah, I’m talking about doing a semester abroad or a summer between years at Duke (assuming I get accepted of course). I know that the robertson scholarship would fund this, but I also know that my chances of getting one of those are pretty slim.

Check out the international DukeEngage programs. Many deal with global health.

DukeEngage is probably your best bet. However, it is a competitive program to receive funding for.

Awsome, thanks for the link.
