My son is applying to a school that has you select the year for an activity. He was a lifeguard the summer between 10 and 11 and again between 11 and 12.

Does the experience for the school year (10th grade) begin with the summer or the fall?

I think summer because he has been promoted at the end of the school year, but want to make sure my thinking is right.

I think it could go either way, to be honest. We did fall. There is room for comments where son said summer after sophomore year or was able to put the year in. I don’t think it matters as long as you are consistent.

Agree with concerned123 - probably doesn’t matter much so long as you are consistent. I’ve always followed the logic that the day after you finish 10th grade, you are an 11th grader.

Actually, you are technically neither - not a freshman nor a sophomore because the new school year hasn’t started yet.

I think the logic is: since you finished 10th grade, you are definitely no longer a 10th grader; though you are not entering 11th yet, you’re much more leaning toward that year. Just my 2 cents.
