Summer and Regular Session?

I’m going to boarding school next year at NMH  but I am not sure whether or not I should attend summer session at Andover this summer. My parents already sent in the deposit but say that it is up to me. I think they are basically indifferent, but are slightly leaning towards me not going. Do you guys think I should go? Any opinions?

P.S. : Don’t focus on me going just to give me a better glimpse of boarding school before I go off for regular session because I have already attended a similar summer session @ PEA

They already paid, didn’t they? If they did, then yes, I would encourage you to go. If they didn’t, and you already have something better to do (as opposed to a summer of nothing and sleeping in), then perhaps not.

BTW, congrats on NMH! : )

I agreed DiveAlive~Since you have already attended a summer session at PEA and will not attend PA, it is not meaningful to take part it in it.

I totally disagree. Andover summer session is the BEST. I attended last yr and will be attending this year. You will have SO much fun and you will meet SO many people. If this is your only summer option, then YES; DO IT-YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST!!!

I will be attending Middlesex School next year…but I still LOVE andover summer session.

Thanks guys. I still am not sure and the forms are due in 2 weeks!

To make it more clear: My parents have not paid the Andover summer school tuition in full just the deposit ~15-20%. But to them, money is not so much the issue, they are just leaning to me staying home because they want to stay with me before I go to boarding school. However, I do feel bad about wasting the money if I don’t go, but it’s a two way street. I’m still a bit confused, but leaning towards going. Any more opinions?

Andover Summer Session is definitely worth it. Best five weeks of my life.

Why would you want to do that if you are already going to be attending bs as a student? Unless you don’t have anything else you do in the summer (sports, for example). I wouldn’t want my son going if he was going away to bs in the fall, but we do a lot in the summer as a family and he plays a lot of sports. If it wasn’t like that, then I suppose I would consider it.

Serious mixed messages. Your parents paid the deposit, but say they want you to stay home. No wonder the confusion.

What is the likelihood that if you stayed home, your parent would spend anytime with you anyway? Have they in the past done summer things together as a family?

Sorry if the question seems a bit hard hearted, but sometimes peoples actions are a better indicator then thier words. Put provide context: there is a significant proportion of kids at bs whose parents seek only bare minimum on contact with them. Long summer programs area assumed, and the school may actually coordinate transportation from one to the other.

Without deeper understanding of your family situation (which is really too personal to sling out on the Net) opinions can’t be well informed. Could I suggest a process whereby you talk to your parents about concrete plans for the summer, before, after and during the proposed program.

BS Summer is nearly 15 weeks long. The summer program is just 5, so you’ll be around for as much as 10 weeks. 15 weeks of watching TV while your parents are at work is really really boring, so make a plan. based on the likelihood of your family actually being around during the summer.

I can’t believe someone who has been accepted to a bs doesn’t already have a full summer with sports, ec’s, or something.
