I am supposed to start a 4 year university for nursing in 2 months but I think I want to possibly go to a tech school instead. What sort of things should I consider to help make a decision?
Why are you no longer interested in nursing?
Have you done any volunteering to see if you like the medical field? Maybe you should do that this summer to see.
When you say tech school…what do you mean? STEM University? Or a 2 year like DeVry?
Can you go to the 4 year university and major in something else?
How expensive are both options?
What was your GPA/SAT/ACT?
Why do you think tech school would be a better option?
Have you considered other options like 2 years of community college and then possibly 4 year college?
Have you thought about the military? Learn a technical skill?
How would you fund both options?
What are the career options for tech school?
How many graduates actually get one of those careers?
What is the graduation rate at both schools?
Have you talked to your parents about this?
Have you talked to your guidance counselor about this?
If you’re still planning on getting a nursing degree, I highly recommend going for a 4-year degree. A lot of nursing is moving in the direction of requiring a BSN (4-year degree) vice the 2-year ADN.
