Summer camp Counselor in Training programs?

<p>Younger daughter won’t turn 16 until mid-summer so a summer job will be harder for her to obtain. I’m looking for recommendations for excellent camps where she could be part of a good counselor in training type program.</p>

<p>I don’t have any camp recommendations. I was just wondering, what state are you in? In many states, it’s not very difficult for someone that age to get a pretty well paid job, such as a bus girl at a restaurant or working at a small gift shop or even regular babysitting. I believe I worked as a bank teller that summer? I was young for the job, though. Most CIT programs are unpaid or significantly under-paid, and it’s very possible to become a camp counselor at many camps without having been a CIT before, so make sure she explores different possibilities first.</p>

<p>Girl Scouts take counselors that have never been scouts. In our area there are jobs for day camps as well as sleep-over camps.</p>

<p>My daughter has been a camp counselor at three different camps over the last 6 years (her preferred summer job) and loves it.</p>

I was just wondering if your D has ever been a camper before, and if so, would that be an option in terms of working there as a counselor. My son worked as a camp counselor at one of the camps that he attended when he was a youngster, and he really enjoyed the experience. Even though he was unusually young, since he had been a previous camper, the director and the staff knew him and allowed him the opportunity to come back and work with one of his former nursery school teachers who was a camp counselor in the summer.</p>

<p>Many of the local YMCA day camps have counselor in training programs. My s did this for two years and enjoyed it. It can be hard work!</p>

<p>both of my daughters have attended the same local campfire camp as campers, as CITs and - my older daughter was also an intern ( which is longer than CIT) and staff.
My younger daughter plans to be an intern this summer.
It is a great experience, I would recommend ACA camps- inc Campfire, YMCA & Scouts</p>

<p>Re pay- the CIT programs Ds were involved with actually require * you * to pay.
For example a 4 week CIT program will cost roughly the same as a 10 day camp program</p>
