Summer Classes Near/At USC

I’m going to be a senior at USC next year and I’d really like to take a class or two this summer, since I’ll be staying in the area. However, I have neither car nor money, and the cost per unit means that summer classes at USC are a little out of my range. Does anyone know of community colleges in the area that are easy to get to by bus, or any cheaper alternatives to paying straight summer tuition (special financial aid, etc)?

Thanks a lot!

What type of classes? science/math/humanities? etc.

Los Angeles City College is at 855 N. Vermont. It’s not super close, but you can get there on a straight shot on the bus. This is the webpage for the Los Angeles Community College district that lists all of the colleges with their addresses. LACCD

LATTC is just NE of the school campus and has an articulation agreement with USC but I’m not sure how many non-vocational orientated courses they might offer. You could get there on the Dash bus that runs around campus or take the exposition subway line when it opens.

Make sure you get your course(s) pre-approved at USC before taking them outside USC to make sure you get transfer credit. USC is very particular about which classes you can take outside the university for transfer credit. Last summer, if you are a USC student, you can rent a university owned apartment walking distance to campus even if you did not take a class at USC. If this is of interest to you, you would have to contact USC housing to see if the same situation exists this coming summer.

Katilina, I have a vague memory that you are a Trustee or Presidential scholar? If so, have you used your “exceptional funding” yet? [USC: Trustee & Presidential Scholars](http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/arp/funding.htm) Trustee Scholars can get up to 8 units funded for summer classes at USC and Presidential Scholars can get up to 8 units funded at half-tuition (note - Presidential Scholars cannot exchange the 8 units of half tuition funding for four full-units of funding).
