Summer Classes or No?

So I’m about to finish freshman year, and I was just hoping for some advice and insight for my future plans in high school.

To start off, I had a pretty mediocre year, I got a quite a few Bs this year and I ended up with a 3.7uw, 3.8w gpa. I felt that I only managed to scrape by this year and that I could have done so much better if I had actually put more effort into my studies. That is to say, complete hw assignments and study harder for tests. (I’m a HUGE procrastinator and I only make an effort of getting by, not going above and beyond. This is a mindset that I’m working to fix, but obviously it takes time and effort)

If I had so much trouble in FRESHMAN year, what will become of me in later years? For example, next year as a sophomore, my schedule is loaded up with the hardest classes available for me. I feel that if I don’t step up my game, I’m going to be overwhelmed.

I recently thought about taking a couple summer classes with a tutor (Algebra 2 and Chemistry, along with some SAT prep classes), I’m not taking them for credit, I just to get ahead in my classes for next year so I don’t have to struggle as much as I did this year.

I’m not even going to take a break. This summer is going to be a hectic one to say the least:
-I was recently given the position of section leader in the marching band, so I have put in more effort to not only help myself, but also to help the other people in my section.
-I am auditioning for county, region, and hopefully all state concert band next year, so I need to put in a lot of practice if I want to have a chance of making it.
-I am going to volunteer as a swim instructor at my local YMCA (I’ve been doing it since I was 12)
-I might take up an afternoon job volunteering at the library.
-I’m on the boy’s JV tennis team and I made it a goal to try to get higher up on the JV ladder, which of course requires extensive practice.
-Next year, I will be taking a science research class and we have a huge summer assignment due on the first day of school.

So with this busy schedule over the summer, is it a good idea for me to take summer classes with just the intention of having a head start for next year? Any advice and insight would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

If you like learning, you’ll enjoy (online) summer classes. Its a nice way to show you are productive over the summer and help pad your GPA.
It seems like you have a lot to do, so if you aren’t taking the classes for credit, self study the first few chapters or so and do some practice problems so that you’ll adjust better when school starts.

What are some good summer classes?

@Swag87 Anything you can get credit for, usually Math and English. Some schools (like mine) have tests you have to take after the course to ensure that you understand the material, and when you pass, you get credit and placement.

Where could I take them?

@swag87 Only your guidance counselor can tell you. Online classes are based on state and county. Otherwise, you might not get credit for them.
