Summer Coding/Computer Science Programs for Rising Sophomore

Does anyone recommend and residential pre-college summer programs for coding/computer science? Would ideally be residential/living in the dorm. Rising sophomore.

He is interested in the Tufts Coding program which has 3 tracks depending one experience so he could do a more advanced track (and he’d get college credit), but just wondering if there are others out there that could are worth considering.

What is the end goal?

To learn coding or because you think it’ll help with college admissions at highly selective schools? (Or something else?)

If learning - there are great (and free) online classes
If admissions - save your money. Classes like this don’t move the needle.

Look here under “Computer Science”.

I get he can do it online, but I think living on a college campus and meeting like-minded peers would be beneficial. He is on his high school robotics team but interested in learning more advanced coding. I was trying to encourage him to do one of the engineering programs in maker spaces (like the Tufts one or another) but he seems to want to do coding. I figure there are more robotics/engineering options once he has completed Algebra II, so I guess he can look at those next year. He’s a strong student, and not concerned about moving the needle for college in the summer after 9th - he has other summers to apply to competitive programs.

Such a good idea. So great for a kid to get a little exposure to what dorms look like, living with a group of peers, being away from home- AND getting to study and focus on what they love. I bet he will love it. Maybe pick a school that would probably end up on your list so he could get a little exposure to the kind of campus?
