do they look at your income when judging your summer activities? for example, i wanted to enroll in university summer programs and all that good stuff, but my family couldn’t afford me to. so i don’t have all the “building a school in ghana” or “traveling abroad” or anything like that on my summer activities. i did do a ton of work on my own films, took a cc class, stuff like that that i could actually afford. so do they judge you based in context of your family’s income?

No. High income = Daddy’s connections. Low income = OK, good for you. Want a prize?

It’s the passion, not money.

wait, so you’re saying they expect low income kids to have the same experiences as high income kids? even if they can’t afford it?

Admissions officers don’t have any access to your financial history; only the financial aid office does. That being sad, they’re looking for passion, not for super expensive amazing experiences (which many people do not have). If they see such experiences, they’ll probably understand that such kids were a little better off financially, but they also may have less “directed” activities. As long as you make it clear who you are, what you love, and where your passions lie, then you’ll be okay.

ok, that sounds good then. cuz i did some community serivice stuff that relates to my passions and goals, and also did a lot of film work like i mentioned above.

should i bother putting stuff like…the fact that this past summer i studied for/got my driver’s permit? or that i took a class at a cc? even though these things don’t relate to my passion?

^No, don’t put your driver’s permit. The CC class is okay, but the driver’s permit isn’t special at all. List things that relate to your learning, at least (so put the CC class), not things that everyone does.

haha, ok, i wasn’t sure if it had to relate to learning or if it was just stuff that filled up your time over the summer? just to show i wasn’t like sitting around, i was studying for my driver’s permit (in addition to other stuff though, obviously.)
