Summer/Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

Could I ask if a 4.0 GPA guarantees admission. I mean no matter the major and department. BTW, could I ask the safest major to get into UT with a 4.0 GPA?

@commandbutton I have a 3.93 through 46 hours at Central Texas, including A’s in Eng Physics and Calc 1-3. I am in the military and have a strong letter of recommendation from my commanding officer of the destroyer I served on for 5 years.

I am going for ECE with CS as a backup.

Chances for Fall '16?

@calebj15 you have a very good chance like if i were to chance you around 85-90% chance you will get in , but i regret doing ECE , i wish i had done CS instead of ECE , so be sure you want to do ECE and not CS. if you find CS courses more interesting do that instead of ECE , because its easier to transfer into ECE from CS but very hard to transfer from ECE to CS. So if you want to go into coding go into CS … look at both the classes that are offered for both the degrees and which ever is more interesting pick that

@commandbutton I actually love circuitry and would love to design hardware. I am a bit intimidated by coding, as I have no experience in it and it seems tedious and frustrating. I believe there will be some coding in the ECE program. Is that accurate?

How marketable is an ECE degree compared to a CS degree? I have heard software guys are much more marketable at the moment.

Hey guys I’m wondering if ya’ll could chance me.

Currently a freshman at Texas State
4.0 GPA (12 hours fall semester and 13 this upcoming spring)
Took 8 D.C. courses through ACC in high school, got A’s in all of them, so overall I still have a 4.0 GPA.
I’ve taken most of my basics (US Hist. Government, English, Calc 1, Intro to CS, taking Calc 2 next semester)

CNS, Cockrell
1st choice: CS
2nd choice: Electrical/Computer Engineering

Essays are pretty good, would like some feedback from others.
I don’t have any recommendations so far, I could get one if you all think that is really necessary.

Many extracurriculars in high school. Some in college (CS Club, STEM LLC), but not that many since I’m also barely starting out. I did some out-of-school computer science programs in high school. I have about 200 volunteer hours that I’ve done.

Hi all,
I’m planning on transferring in Fall 2016 from the Honors College at University of Houston.
First choice major: CNS- Nutrition
Second choice major: COE- Kinesiology & Health
I ultimately want to internally transfer to CNS- Public Health but I didn’t keep that as my first choice because I heard it is more competitive, and I’m ok with either of those 2 majors.
My current GPA from Fall 2015: 3.437
My expected GPA after Spring 2016: 3.63-3.75 (depending on how many Bs I get.)
I haven’t done my essays or LORs yet, but I will spend a lot of time on perfecting them before I submit.
Some ECs I have from high school: President of Science National Honor Society for 2 years, 200 Hours of health science externship (shadowing/rotations), ran 2 blood drives, part time employment, NHS, and a LOT (like over 500) of volunteering hours from my religious center. Was top 5% in high school and had ACT 31 (not sure if that matters.)
In college I joined Pre PA association, and I’m still volunteering.
I have Calc 1, Bio 1&2, and Chem 1 credit (with labs.)
What are my chances for both majors? And is it easier to get into CNS- Undeclared? Thank you for reading my long post! :slight_smile:

@hookem2016
If you were top 5% of class, you’d still be able use your auto admit status as a transfer student. Also if you want to change majors once you are in, you can’t do it until you’ve completed 24 hrs at UT. Which is about a year later. Also, Id stay away from undeclared if possible. They have made it clear that they want to take transfer students who are likely to graduate timely. If you are an undeclared transfer applicant, that says "I still don’t know what I want to do when i grow up. "

@lgodz15
Both of your major choices are extremely competitive. You must maintain a solid 4.0 and get those LORs. Your count is only 25 credits after spring. Unless you are planning to take 2 more classes over the summer, you won’t have the 30 minimum to apply as transfer. If you don’t get in the fall, you’d have to wait until following fall because they don’t take spring amiadmits. Awesome for you when you get in though. Good luck!

Hello all, I’m currently finishing up my last semester at a community college in Texas and planning on transferring to the University of Texas at Austin. My GPA is currently a 3.94 out of 4 due to one B that I made in a dual credit class in high school. My first choice is the Jackson School of Geosciences. I am currently taking Calc 2 and Engineering Physics 1. I have completed Chemistry 1 and 2 and have received all A’s in the courses I have taken at my community college. I was wondering if anyone knows if UT Austin will be a good place for me and what are my chances of getting in? By the time I transfer I should have 60 credit hours.

I really appreciate any thoughts! Thanks!

Chances??

So, for example, I have my first major for the school of natural sciences (which I have a feeling I won’t get into) and my second major is for environmental science in liberal arts. I found on the UT-ACC sheet that I should have made it my first-choice major and I needed geology but I cannot find those requirements on their website. I have 37 hours and I’m under review with a GPA of 3.68. If I get rejected from both majors, could I still get offered admission to UT for another major or liberal arts? And how likely would that be?

@jpg6643 I would post this question on the 2016 Summer/Fall transfer thread. That’s where all the action is for people awaiting a decision :slight_smile:
