@biocraze Why no rec letters? Should have been easy with your GPA to find a few teachers who would write you one. Honestly I think that was a big mistake. I could see them dinging an otherwise borderline applicant for something like that.
@danfer91 There were some complications with a teacher trying to write my Rec letter and by that time, the deadline had already passed. I agree that it was a huge mistake! But hopefully they can look past that
In general just wondering if it’s even possible for me to consider transferring for either Spring 2016 or Fall 2016?
Currently going to be a junior starting this fall at UH with so far 62 hours and 3.629, 23 credits are transfer credits from AP tests and 4 credits are from just taking a summer class last year. I have over 120+ hrs of volunteering from HS, 30+ hrs from volunteering in organizations from and I’ve joined a couple organizations in university. I want to transfer possibly into the CNS - Biology and maybe my second choice COLA undeclared? I don’t think I’ll be able to get any recc letters in time for Spring admission as I haven’t really established any close relationships with past professors unless I just ask out of the blue but then I don’t think it would warrant a rec? I could also try asking my prof for chem 2 during this fall as I’ll be volunteering working with him but is it risky to ask for rec letters for both fall and spring admission terms or will that be crossing the line and to just ask for either spring or fall? Not to mention that fact that if I transfer for spring 2016 I’ll enroll with an additional 18 more hours making a total of 80 and there’s the 60 hr residency which I have no problem with but I’m concerned if the admissions will be and just reject as I’m past 60 hrs regardless whether they admit me for spring or fall. If I apply for fall I’ll probably have at least 92 hrs total.
if it has to do with anything I did get offered CAP but I rejected it which was dumb of me to do so, i actually applied to transfer after my freshmen year of uni but get rejected. so really not sure if i should go and try again or not. i really want to get into UT and have no problem graduating a year later if i have to retake courses to meet the 60 hr residency requirement,
Final transcript was just processed this morning around 11am. Only a matter of time now…
Also, question: Do they send out decisions over the weekend?
I don’t remember seeing a single result for any of the folks listed in this thread but several folks have posted hearing some acceptances going over weekends, including the memorial day weekend too…
@MyUTAustin Have you heard back?
I have continued to follow this thread and am pulling for each and every one of you. Thankfully my daughter was accepted April 16 and we were able to move quickly and take care of housing etc. She was very successful with student government and other activities at the university she attended her freshman year. With AP she had over 60 hours after the first semester. She was very uncomfortable asking for letters of recommendations from her professors because she did not want to let on that she had one foot out the door thinking it might hurt her with her honors program and organizations and offices that she had been chosen for and in a couple of cases been elected to in cause her transfer was denied. In fact, she did not share this info with friends for the same reason.
She had not made it in as a freshman because of the crazy competitive nature of her high school. You needed over a 4.4 for Auto admit. I am sure that the majority of you were in the same boat. As I was told by a college counselor, “a lot of schools are really happy to have smart Texas kids.”
She had one letter of recommendation from a family friend. We have been best friends since our days at Texas when Willie Nelson was playing at small parties around town. Yep the seventies were great in Austin. So a Texas alum who was very successful in her profession penned the letter. The letter was sincere and stressed the qualities and attributes that my daughter would bring to the table as a Longhorn. Don’t let the letters be a source of anxiety. We are not all connected to the high and mighty. The letter is about what you can bring to THE University.
I want to say that I am sorry that the level of competition for slots at Texas is so great that many very qualified applicants will not be accepted. You are all Superstars!
No nothing so far, I keep refreshing mystatus like crazy just to see that same old screen. If someone paid me to click on that website for every click, I’d have paid off my for all my 4 years of tuition in these last 2 months haha…
@MyUtAustin I feel your pain. I feel compelled to check every few minutes even though I know nothing will change. Only thing we can do is wait.
@HookEmJ17 And? Anecdotal evidence aside I don’t remember ever implying that it was impossible to get accepted without Rec letters. I realize that at UT they are optional, although for many institutions and grad schools this is not the case. What I was saying was that an otherwise borderline applicant, let’s say someone with a 3.4-3.6 applying to COLA, nothing but a few club memberships on their resume, might get dinged over someone with the same stats who got very good academic or work related recommendation letters. Note that I wasn’t saying this about the particular person I was replying to - I should have clarified. In my opinion recommendations are one of the most overlooked parts of an application that can make someone stand out, and most applicants exert far too little effort in choosing who to obtain them from and prepping them.
i am a cap student
@HookEmJ17 oh what was your application like?
I know I’m a bit late but…
I have a gpa of 3.89, 27 hours plus 6 dual credit hours. So 33 hours total. My essays are pretty good, and my resume is pretty decent as well. I missed the deadline so I don’t have any letters of recommendation.
First choice COLA Philosophy
Second choice COLA Anthropology
With my gpa being a 3.89, and me applying to COLA, does not hhaving a letter of recommendation hurt me a lot?
@nighthawk9 You’ll be fine. You’re far from borderline and not having a rec won’t really hurt you at UT the way it would at Rice where they wouldn’t even look at your app if you didn’t have 2 academic letters.
@nighthawk9 You should be fine with your GPA. I just got into COLA for philosophy with 1 letter. My GPA before the spring semester was 3.5, and 4.0 in the spring.
Graduated from my community college, sent the transcript to UT and I was in within a week? @biocraze
Looks like mystatus is down… Anyone else having issues?
Same here. Probably gonna hit everyone with a barrage of decisions?
