@MathMeany I don’t know how common it is, but it’s probably a way for UT to apologize to applicants since they are giving out decisions so late. They also know many people will try to transfer internally in the future. If they did give out decisions a month ago, UT would most likely flat-out deny them instead of offering them admissions to COLA.
The only thing that worries me is how much more competitive transferring internally is gonna be next year. Feel like lots of people are gonna be “stuck” with liberal arts majors.
Let me just say csteele, summeroo, etc you had amazing stats and deserved the major of your choice. You got the potential to do a great job in your first choice majors and I wish you the best.
This comment is not meant to devalue acceptances to COLA, im just saying we ALL ARE COMPETITIVE ut is just insanely hard and holistic review is pretty confusing. We can be great engineers or advertisers and if UT doesnt have enough room for us then maybe we are better off following our “callings” elsewhere.
Ps: accepted my offer to tamu this weekend; still in review for Moody.
@lupeluprecia We could make this into a life lesson. No matter how skilled, competent, or hardworking we are, there are always going to be something out of our control. In this case the response time from UT and the number of people applying. Stuff happens in life, and we just happened to experience one of those moments.
My other friend’s friend called up UT and asked when engineering applicants should expect to hear back. They said not to expect to receive a decision before June 10th.
that’s too later
We regret that we are not able to offer you admission at this time.
Thank you for your interest in The University of Texas at Austin. We regret that after a careful review of applications, we are not able to offer you admission at this time.
Each year, the Office of Admissions faces the difficult task of selecting for admission a limited number of students from a pool of extremely qualified applicants. We use a holistic review process to examine the range of each applicant’s demonstrated abilities, achievements and interests. On average, about three times the number of students we can accommodate will apply.
Although we are not able to offer you admission this cycle, you are welcome to apply again in the future.
such wow
,
@cagirl24 I’m sorry to hear that.
So sorry @cagirl24 :. May I ask what you applied for and what your GPA was? I’m so nervous.
we probably won’t hear back until after the 15th which sucks cuz the last day to drop summer classes at UTSA is the 10th…
@cagirl24 a year ago I was denied as well for the spring 14 semester. Turned out being an issue my community college caused with my transcript. I reapplied for the fall 14 semester and got in. You can still be a longhorn if you want, just reapply. But either way, the decision UT made will not affect your future. You still control that! Best of luck
“3 times the amount of students we can accommodate apply.”
They really need to update that 40% acceptance rate.
I wonder that the acceptance rate for non-auto admits is…
UT Austin Fall/Summer 2015 housing /roommate finder/Financial aid questions.
Started this thread.
For all of us still waiting… I was told we would know by the “15th or 16th” when I called admissions today.
^ I don’t know that the people on the phone can say anything with any certainty. We got nothing else to do but wait.
As a side note I wanted to share that I installed a plugin on my firefox called distill, it’s basically an RSS feed. So I don’t have to keep logging in to the status page as distill checks often enough to keep it refreshed. I have to say it has helped a lot in not compulsively checking my status… definitively recommend…
What is the point of calling if everyone gets a different answer?
This is stoopid
Sharia? are you there bb? did u get admitted to ECE?
