Summer housing in NYC for 2011

I’ve looked at the other threads about this topic. My D has an internship from 6/1 through mid-August in Manhattan. She’s very conflicted about subletting vs. dorms. Just wondering what experiences others have had with NYU summer housing, New School, and Columbia. Our experience with Craigslist so far has been negative. She hasn’t applied to NYU yet since it seems such a longshot to even get air conditioning. She definitely needs a single. Experiences? Suggestions?

twoparent-congrats on your daughter’s internship in NYC! My son’s girlfriend lived in NYU dorm for her internship last summer, and it worked out very well for her. She applied late, but somehow managed to be placed in a triple, with air conditioning.
The rooms were small, but the location worked well for her, she liked her roommates, and the summer was a wonderful experience. What an adventure!

I’ve known a lot of kids who have lived in the NYU dorms over the summer; if you aren’t all that familiar with the city it is probably a better option than navigating Craigslist. Isn’t there a pretty early deadline (like around now) for NYU?

Has anyone been successful using sublet.com?

You can check out Educational Housing Services. They have several residences throughout the city.

My D is in college at Marymount Manhattan in NYC and I believe they rent out dorm rooms for summer interns. I would suggest calling the school directly.

Also regarding Craigslist, my D’s bf is on his second short term sublet and has had no problems at all finding places he likes.
