Summer housing

What dorms are generally open for summer school students? Son is considering taking a class at Pitt, or perhaps volunteering in a lab there during the summer.

Also, does one have to have a car to get around if living on campus? I'm assuming dining halls will be open, but is there an on campus food court or a walking distance grocery store?

Towers is open for the summer. You just fill out an application for it. When DS stayed there, you had to be enrolled in a summer course to stay. The application will show up on the housing website sometime during the Spring semester. There are also plenty of summer sublets available.

Don't need a car. There is a grocery store (IGA) nearby.

All of the on campus dining options should be open during summer term (i.e. when summer classes are in session). If you are a current student, then you can use your ID to take the bus to the other grocery stores in the area (Giant Eagle, Whole Foods, etc.)
