Summer Internship housing in Washington DC?

Our daughter will be doing an internship in Washington DC this Summer and we are attempting to assist her with securing housing. It will be for her and two other young women for the period of June 4th through August 4th. They need to be in close proximity to the Capital.
All suggestions are appreciated!

GW offers summer housing in the dorms, its right near the Foggy Bottom metro station.

One of my kids lived in a GW dorm for the summer. Not super cheap (but the stipend from the U paid for it) and the A/C was barely functional-- but really convenient to everything- buses, Metro, easy to get around DC with a swipe!

A friend of mine used the Washington Intern Student Housing (if you google it the website should be the first result) and liked it much better then living in a dorm for about the same cost. They also tend to have more availability around this time, while GW’s summer housing fills up fast (especially the cheaper options).

DC housing seems to always be in flux, with young folks coming and going. S found a place on CL years ago for his summer internship, though a bit farther out by metro. I had him post an ad in housing wanted on CL as well, and he got many responses, including some from families willing to rent a single room for a few months. But he wanted to be with his contemporaries.

Check with her college’s (& sorority’s, if she is a member) DC alumni chapter. My alma mater maintains a list of alums who are willing to host interns.

My D interned on the Hill for our congresswoman two years ago. She stayed at Thompson-Markward Hall. It is dorm style and provides 2 meals a day with the price. The best part was it was a short 10 min. walk to her office. Her friend, who also stayed there, walked across the street to the senate offices where she interned. The only drawback was it is very strict about guests and no men are allowed beyond the reception area. My D wasn’t bothered by it because she made friends with other interns who were staying in apartments. They spent time there.

@lilmom Hi! I am also looking for somewhere to stay this summer for my internship and i was wondering… How close is TMH to Capitol Hill and did your daughter feel safe living there? I know there are areas of D.C. that face a lot of crime.

@toriv63, TMH is across the street from the senate offices. I believe my daughter said there is an entrance in the senate bldg where you can access an underground tunnel to get to the congressional offices. (Nice when its raining or insanely hot and humid). TMH is in a very safe area and patrolled by the Capitol police because of its proximity to the senate offices. She felt very safe and was happy that she could walk to work.

@GreatKid my daughter is subletting her room in a 4 bedroom/4 bath apt in Maryland from 6/1-7/31. Not sure if the dates work but inbox Menifee you are interested. It’s a block from the metro station and quick ride into DC

Thank you partyof5 our daughter has secured housing. It took a while but we were able to find a good option for her.
