Anyone have any suggestions for finding a furnished 1 or 2 bedroom apartment for a summer internship in the SFO bay area, approx June-August? One kid has a Menlo Park internship and a car; other goes to school in SFO and will need to use Caltran. Any help appreciated!
Do the companies that sponsor these internships have any relocation specialists? That’s where I would start.
So am I understanding the kids want to live together? What exactly do you mean by SFO…Is school in SF or on the Oakland side? Your options could be pretty different depending on whether the second one needs to get to school on the SF or Oakland side of the bay.
Funny, just came back after visiting a kid who just started Google in Mountain View. The Google provided company furnished housing is very good, I think they pay $5000 a month. This will be out of your budget. So what is your budget?
You can start looking for the housing in San Bruno, Daly City and South San which has lower rent and BART access. I assume SFO is San Francisco and
Cal Tran is any public train access. If the school is Berkeley then BART is a better choice, if it is Stanford then Caltran is better. Obviously you do not want live in Palo Alto, so, for Stanford try San Mateo, Belmont, San Carlos and Redwood City.
Sorry to have messed that up–The student will be taking classes in downtown San Francisco and will take the train; my son will be working in Melo Park and will have a car. They would like to room together. It’s hard to find short-term, furnished rentals, so we’re looking for some advice about location and places offering short-term rentals.
I don’t know if you want to look at the posts for VRBO vacation rentals by owner, some have month to month leases.
There is some distance between the SF CalTrain station and downtown SF. Need to ride another kind (I think there are two kinds) of public transportation to get to downtown from SF CalTrain station.
^ You can take Caltrain to the Millbrae Station then transfer over to BART (and get off downtown). Or just live closer to the BART station on the Peninsula (and skip Caltrain altogether). Or you can take a bus from the SF Caltrain station.
