<p>while some ppl may be like ***, y ask if ull get a nomination, my district is very competitive i believe, and im just nervous.</p>

<p>uofmhopeful: The admissions process is a roller coaster ride. All candidates (even those who get LOAs) are nervous about getting a nomination and then an appointment until they actually have it in their hands, and then they still worry about getting injured before R-Day and having it revoked…(5 days and counting in this household!) Your stats look good, and the fact that you were admitted to SLS is a good sign. Your MALO will be able to tell you how you stack up against the current competition in your area. Elected leadership positions and varsity sports are helpful in boosting your whole candidate score if you need it.
Remember the DoDMERB (medical clearance) process can be a long and stressful process too. Schedule your appointment as soon as you get the card with the details, and follow up with any remedials (additional tests/paperwork) ASAP should they be needed.</p>

<p>uofmhopeful: In your first post you were worried about the CFA at SLS - how did you do?</p>

<p>uofmhopeful: my stats were a lot like yours and i got an LOA. i’m female, don’t know if gender has anything to do with issuing LOAs.</p>

<p>aahhh, the delightful CFa… wasnt too bad actually, i had an overall risk tho cuz of the pullups. guess everything else was average.</p>

<p>and, marmadillo, hopefully gender doesnt count.</p>

<p>oh yea, i wont be able to send an updated transcript to west point with all 6 semesters because my school got out already and my counselor prolly wont have access to the ystem to print me a transcript. however, would it be wise to send them a transcript with 5 semesters and a report card with the 6th semester? would that be okay for an LOA?</p>

<p>Call the school and see if the person who generates the transcripts is still there. If not you can try a 5 semester transcript and a grade report, but your GPA and class rank may not be accurate. WP admissions may be able to tell you if this would suffice.
The good thing about the CFA is that you will see a big improvement with practice - keep doing those pullups!</p>

<p>Within the next couple weeks, the first batch of LOAs will be distributed! as ive researched the coveted letter of assurance, West Point bases it on a couple gategories: academic and athletic. In that case, many of the attendees of the 2006 SLS would be receiving LOAs, because they have proved to be intelligent(GPA and SATs/ACTs) and physically apt (Varsity Sport Participation).</p>

<p>my school does not make official transcripts with class rank and GPA until end of september or earl october. Should I just send in an unofficial one with all my classes and grades to date or should I wait until I have an official one to send in?</p>

<p>They’re sending out LOAs already? I thought the first admissions board didn’t meet until late August if not September…very interesting uofmhopeful</p>

<p>LOA’s will start very soon. By mid July</p>

<p>My experience at SLS: i thought it was pretty cool; West Point is not going to be my first choice of college, but i’m seriously considering it. The cadets seemed really cool, and there were a lot less hardcore army kids than i thought (which i consider a good thing).
I was in 1st platoon, 8th squad: MEGGS! he was by far the chillest squad leader in the whole company. we had a bunch of cool guys and noone was an ****<strong><em>. none of us were hardcore set on coming to west point, so we pretty much had a relaxed time.
on the CFA, i got a 67 ft bb throw, 10 pullups, 8 sec. shuttle run, 57 sit-ups, 75 push-ups, but i didnt do the mile run cause i felt like absolute *</em></strong> after maxing out the push-ups. i would’ve normally ran a 7:00 mile.
PT: wasnt easy, but wasnt really hard either. not much to comment on this part.
Classes: i took comp sci + apps, human behavior, and electrial engineering. I personally thought one day to cover each topic wasn’t enough. comp sci was ridiculously boring, and i hope if i take computer engineering there that the classes wont be as lame as that one was. I human behavior, that brain psychology guy got me interested in engineering psychology.
Military Training: i’d have to say that firing the m240 was the highlight of my time at west point. it was absolutely kick-ass! the soldiers i met were pretty cool, except maybe that one guy who talked about killing little children.
Now on to what i liked and didnt like about SLS:
Liked: Physical activities: right after i left SLS, i went straight to another summer program, which i hated. it was basically 10 days of straight lectures, horrible, unhealthy food, and no physical activities whatsoever. I felt like **** during that whole trip. during SLS, however, i felt great and was never really tired (except during those briefings). Food: the food there was actually good, and healthy, which was pretty cool. They only give you like 20 minutes to eat, so you cant be slow about eating stuff. People: i met a lot of cool people at SLS, and made a few good friends. The cadets were pretty cool, there were only a few hard-asses. for the candidates, i’d say the 75% of them were cool, and about 25% were dicks, which i consider a pretty good ratio. however, most of the dicks are determined to come to west point, while most of the cool people are considering other colleges along with west point.
Disliked: Number of Female Candidates: There were probably five guys to every one chick at SLS. The dance basically consisted of a bunch of guys trying to get it on with a few hot girls. Regimented Schedule: i didnt really hate it, i just didnt like having 10 minutes to shower with like 30 other people straight after PT in a communal shower. Formations: i didnt really hate this either, it was just boring. Uniforms: i’ve never tucked a t-shirt in my pants until i came to west point. i dunno if i can live wearing uniforms 7 days a week. Walking: i didnt really dislike this; it was just kinda lame having to stretch my legs after getting up from my seat from all the marching and running we did.
Note: i did not personally see any sort of sexism or divide between males and females during my time at SLS. We treated the girls in my squad equally, and didnt criticize anybody. Some of the guys may have have made offhand jokes, but they were not being serious.
Overall, West Point didnt seem as militaristic as it did before i came to SLS, and thought of becoming an officer in the Army seems pretty cool. You can’t possibly beat free tuition, guaranteed employment, and maybe getting a masters degree for free. Hopefully i get accepted there, and good luck to all you other guys applying.</p>

<p>god, SLS was amazing… hey, if any of yall wanna hit me up someplace, try aim- brsrkdb8er, or search Abhishek Rao on facebook…</p>

<p>i loved SLS sgt. meggs was the best leader</p>

<p>“Uniforms: i’ve never tucked a t-shirt in my pants until i came to west point. i dunno if i can live wearing uniforms 7 days a week.”</p>

<p>You do realise most places of buisness require some sort of uniform/dress code? And 99% of them will require you to tuck your shirt in?</p>

<p>Yeah SLS was amazing.
What Platoon/Squad were you guys in?</p>

<p>I was 3/4, with Sgt. Farazdaghi as my leader. He was the most laid-back dude ever!</p>

<p>America’s Army lanning was one of the cooler things we did, except our team killed ourselves instead of the enemy.</p>

<p>What did you guys enjoy the most? </p>

<p>Military day was the coolest thing ever, my face was wigged out with all that camo!</p>

<p>my favorite part of SLS: firing the m240. that thing was a beast!</p>

<p>Is there any swimming at SLS? There better be; I wouldn’t want to bring my bathing suit for no reason.</p>

<p>Nope, there wasn’t any swimming at SLS, I guess they tell you to bring a bathing suit just in case you don’t feel comfortable taking community showers with everyone else who isn’t wearing a bathing suit lol. I don’t know, but if you want swimming go to NASS.</p>

<p>Oh and while we’re on it does anyone know of any good sites that have a good structured swimming routine? I really need to work on it, its probably my worst thing right now and I hear that plebe swimming is super hard at USMA.</p>

<p>This one guy told me plebe swimming wasn’t as hard as he expected, and he never swam much before his plebe year</p>
