Summer music camp middle schooler

You could possibly reach out to Heifetz. I believe their deadline has passed, but they’re always looking for viola players.

We still haven’t heard anything back from Kinhaven. Does that mean he is not getting in? Or does it take longer since we applied late?
We also heard that NEMC Prelude Strings camp might still be taking students. Does anybody have any experience with it?

I would message Matt at Kinhaven and ask him. He is great and very receptive. The preludes progeam at nemc is for beginners I believe. When my S went to their chamber program the post Covid summer the kids were young and not high level.

Thank you!

I couldn’t find the number for any specific person - just a generic email and number which I have sent an email to…

The admin email is Matt the camp administrator.

Got it! Thank you!

No spots available :disappointed:

Luzerne NY seems to have spots available in the Junior session. Any experience with that?

Level at Luzerne Junior is pretty low compared to most of the other programs listed in this thread, but it all depends on where your kid is at.

He is at a higher level for Piano. For Viola, he is only doing Suzuki book 4, but he has been part of multiple orchestra groups and some chamber music. Would the Luzerne Junior be right for him?

Actually, it might then!

Keep kinhaven in mind for next summer. My kid loved it so much there.

Hello - I’m reviving this thread looking ahead to summer 2025. My daughter is a violinist who will be a rising 8th grader. Does anyone have experience with the PIMF program? I’m curious about the rigor, and the value of the orchestra focused experience (vs solo performance or the chamber program)?

My s24 went to senior session orchestra program of pimf the summer after his freshman year of HS. The lesson with the Philadelphia symphony member was amazing but otherwise he wasn’t too impressed by the rigor or the quality of the other players. The dorms were spartan

The two people I know who went there were not that impressed, especially given how expensive it is. I think you are better off applying to some of the chamber music programs, even if they are junior division. Kinhaven junior, Greenwood junior, or if they are a bit more advanced, Center Stage Strings. There are several others but deadlines have already passed for them.

We applied to both Luzerne and Kinhaven for 2025 summer. Got accepted in Luzerne. Still waiting to hear back from Kinhaven. Any idea when they send out the notifications? I have emailed the admin, but no response so far.

Can’t speak to the orchestra program (my D did the solo prep and she was older) but she didn’t like the vibe, dorms, staff or food at PIMF at all.

I don’t know the playing level of your student or where you’re located but when my D was in middle school we had good luck with a few summer programs run by Midwestern colleges, specifically Lakeland University music camp and U Wisconsin music camp.
