Summer Music Festivals 2024

How bad of form is it to pull out of a program you already put down a deposit for? My younger one just got offered a spot from the waitlist at her first choice program. The deposit was not substantial, so financially it will be OK.

Do programs typically notify all applicants whether they’ve been accepted, wait-listed, or rejected? Still haven’t heard anything at all from a program and wondering if they’re issued a first round of acceptances and are waiting for commitments before moving on to the next tier.

At this point when all of the programs have wait lists and some haven’t even sent out acceptances it should be expected and fine.

Some don’t tell all at once- some will start by offering acceptances to those they know are full pay and who therefore can decide where to go independent of different financial offers. Some will keep certain applicants(I imagine those who just aren’t the top choices but are solid) in limbo until it is clear the studios are full It’s not standardized.

That’s helpful to know, thanks! We may have to reach out and ask if they can give us a timeline.

If you are open to saying which program, other readers might be able to let you know if they have heard anything yet.

Agree with @helpingthekid73 that this is probably not all that unusual. I would think therefore, it is not bad form at all.

It would be so helpful is programs coordinated acceptance dates and deposit deadlines a little better. Probably too much to ask.

Plus they get to keep the deposit $ and collect again from another student they move up from their own waitlist. Financially it’s a win for them.

The one we’re waiting on is Heifetz. They emailed several days ago to say decisions would come out starting March 4. We’re trying to be patient!

They started sending out acceptance letters 3 days ago.

Thank you so much for the info!

one more call for any experience or knowledge of Chautauqua Music Institute?

Has anyone heard from Meadowmount?

I think that’s reasonable.

Festivals have their first picks, you have your first choices, your kid should do what is best for them, it is fair to communicate your preference, better do it sooner than later so other candidates had their chance and time to decide too. Congratulations!

Haven’t heard anything here yet either. In a holding pattern on another acceptance

Thanks for all the updates for everyone. DD heard that she got in at Brevard and Green Mtn for cello. She was excited about that, but disappointed to get waitlisted at BUTI; still waiting to hear back from a few others.

Very well said and this is like college applications

DD is 17, and she is in the reserve list. She had committed to another summer festival this summer which she will be the youngest and I am a bit worried

My DD was in BUTI waitlist a few summer ago but got admitted just 1-2 weeks later for both chamber and orchestra. Good luck and your kid may hear from them soon.
