I’d really rather not email them, for fear of coming across as a pushy parent. On the other hand, there are downstream effects, right? We’re sitting on acceptances that others may be awaiting…
If she is waitlisted for Junior Verbiers, they publish the membership list this week and I guess movement might be minimal after this; DD has string instrument and brass friends who are doing it. Re the other festival where she is youngest I assume you have spoken them? DD has been youngest in places and whether it matters really depends on the set up, how long the programme is for, etc
Got acceptance from Heifetz Sunday night.
Accepted at Heifetz. Now deciding between Heifetz and Green Mountain for cello. We got our preferred teacher for GM but not for Heifetz.
My daughter was accepted by BUTI, Heifetz and GM last year. We chose GM because her assigned teacher looked more appealing. We are glad we chose GM because she bonded with her Violin teacher. This year, she only applied GM so that she can study with the same teacher again.
Having said that,Heifetz tends to have serious students and such an inspiration to watch peers who are absolutely hard working/talented. My daughter had very positive experience and still keeps in touch with some students.
As for BUTI, I’m glad I didn’t send her there last year. It is because too many students were sent home at the beginning of orchestral program due to breaking rules. She had fine experience at intensive program in the past though.
Congratulations! How many days did Heifetz give you to accept?
Three. I’m guessing we are the second round, since acceptances started going out four days ago.
Great feedback, thank you! We have been leaning toward Heifetz for our 13yo partly because it’s a little shorter and geographically closer than Green Mountain. That said, we’d have been perfectly content with GM. This is our first summer trying a residential music program so it’s all new to us. Very much appreciate everyone’s information and support.
Same here! Trying to decide between GM and Heifetz (Junior). Any feedback/recommendations? Which way are you leaning?
We know students who’ve done Heifetz, but haven’t heard from any students/parents who’ve attended GM.
One program where my son was the youngest and they stayed in hotels he was placed with another similarly aged roommate(one year older). I would ask about how the age spread is handled in advance of choosing a program if you have concerns.
3 days. Awaiting meadowmount at this point…anyone knows when meadowmount usually give results? Do they respond with email inquiries?
Another thing to consider : Burlington airport is extremely expensive to fly in and out. It was nice to be able to drive to Heifetz for us.
At GM, town is bigger than where Heifetz is located, and more liberal with many more college students in different levels whereas many of Heifetz’ older students are all from Juilliard & Curtis.
Hope it helps!
Gave up a cello spot at BUTI pretty recently. We have not gotten a confirmation from the program yet so I wonder if they have not acknowledged yet. Anyway, I think there is still hope.
Last year Meadowmount sent it out around March 7th. Yes, they do respond with email inquiries. Last year they replied my email on the same day.
Thank you for the info! just sent a mail to them and waiting for reply.
I just emailed Meadowmount and they got back to me super quickly and said that admissions will be emailed out midweek.
My kids attended Heifetz Jr and we know some kids who have gone to GM. Heifetz Jr is good for solo performance work. I was disappointed in the chamber experience - both of my kids ended up with groups that were not at their level and the repertoire was very basic. The emphasis is very much on solo performance. There is a lot of unstructured time and very little in the way of entertainment or group activities outside of concerts. Also considered GM for my older child but they have high school and college students in their program and it felt a little too old for my then 13 year old so socially, I thought it would be tough.
During the unstructured time, could they stay in the dorm and do some work besides practice? Do they get a private practice room?
They practiced mostly in their dorm room but there are other rooms they can use, just a little random. During unstructured time, they can do whatever they want - many kids play video games or do screen time. Some, age 13 and over, can go off campus into town, so they go to cafes or to restaurants and there is also a movie theater. They have outdoor space, but my son was told he could not use the fields bc I guess that is only for college students. Kids seem to find things to do - hang out, chat, goof off.
My dd is a bit older and wants to take a couple online async classes if camp allows so some open time is definitely great for her.
