Summer Music Festivals 2024

Thanks… yeah, the GM experience is what I’m not too clear on. I’m okay with the ages, but more worried about the down time there. Looks like Saturday and Sunday are wide open (aside from market/street performance), and offer a lot of off-site non-music activites.

Mine is going there as well - might see you at the final concert!

My both sons attended GM last year. For my older one it was his second year and he liked it ok. The younger one had a blast. He loved everything about it, made a lot of friends and went all over Burlington during their time off. Their group was a bunch of 14-17 year-olds.

Thanks! Great to hear. It looks like it’s basically all free time on the weekends?

How did they feel about their progress musically?

My son is usually very positive, having people with similar interests makes him energized. The entire festival seemed very well organized and that made a good impression on me as a parent from the moment we got a confirmation letter. They provided plenty of practice time, chamber groups and solo opportunities. I think solo playing was not mandatory, so it was up to a student to participate in one of the concerts.
He was happy with the assigned teacher, though he is always aware that the festival coaching might be not to the liking of his regular teacher and things might get undone, changed, or abandoned all together upon return from all summer activities.
At this point, I believe that one of the biggest values of summer festivals are the connections being made among students themselves and with the teaching faculty.

Congrats to everyone as more notifications arrive.

Does anyone have any feedback on Interlochen cello intensive (1 week)?

yes, it’s the parents’ nature to worry, even when we know they’ll be all right.
You mentioned aspen earlier. I remember they had different arrangements for students under 18 last year. Did they change it this year?

Does anyone have experience/opinions re Eastern Music Festival, for piano? DS was more or less decided on EMF but got accepted to Brevard with decent merit. He attended Brevard last year and is torn between trying something new or going back to Brevard, which he enjoyed (except for the food apparently).

We’re faced with the same choice: EMF or Brevard (cello) . D26 was also decided on EMF but just received acceptance & decent merit from Brevard, making it a tough choice. She has never been to either, so am very curious to hear the pros and cons of each from anyone who has had experience with both programs.

Food at Brevard was much better than that up in Fredonia!

I’d also like to know as my son was accepted. He is leaning toward attending!

Has anyone heard from Center Stage Strings? We applied (late) as a backup to BUTI waitlist and were told that we are on ‘First Tier’ waitlist and likely to be accepted. The email said we’d hear back shortly after March 10th. I thought we’d hear something this week but nada. Anyone know how things work there? Worth reaching out to them or should I just be patient?

Reach out to Center Stage Strings – everybody is super nice there! Though they extended the response deadline to 3/15 for accepted applicants, so you will likely not know until after today.

I think I’ll just wait and contact them next week if still no word. Thanks!

Has meadowmount started notifying applicants? We are still waiting here…

Still waiting also, and we’ve already had a week and a half extension granted from Brevard. They said midweek, but that has passed.
