Son is considering taking a course at UMCP this summer, or possibly volunteering to do research in a lab there.

He will need on campus housing.

Are dorms available during the summer for students?

If so, what dorms are usually open?

Thanks for info!

As for on-campus housing offered through the department of resident life, the university’s apartment-style housing is available during the summer. This website includes the pricing and details from summer 2011 (note that the rates likely are going to go up for this summer).

Alternatively, students living in South Campus Commons, Courtyards, and other nearby apartment complexes frequently choose to sublease their rooms during the summer. The rooms are advertised in facebook groups (“University of Maryland Class of 20XX”, and emails such as the Honors College Listserv. It is possible that these rooms will be offered for better prices because their student owners are desperate to fill their rooms while they are gone over the summer.
Finding housing should not be a problem. Your son can to ask around and discover the best way to stay on campus over the summer.
