Summer orientation

is there a summer orientation at ucsd over summer? and when are they…is there a site that talks about it?

I want to know when UCSD’s orientation is as well…so if anyone knows, please tell us.

Yeah, at Admit Day they talked about a mandatory student orientation on June 28th, but they said that if you couldn’t come that night that you had the option of coming on either June 25th or June 30th as well.

That’s as far as I know.

Oh, and they recommended that you stay overnight in one of their dorms. That’s all. :)

They’ll probably mail more stuff about it later on. Don’t worry.

You can’t sign up for orientation until after you have sent in your SIR and gotten your PAC. However, here are the dates for some of colleges at UCSD:

Thurgood Marshall:

Orientation sessions are offered for entering fall quarter freshmen. Transfer students participate in an orientation session prior to any one of the quarters for which they have been admitted: fall, winter or spring. Information is mailed well in advance of the quarter regarding choosing and reserving an orientation day for the student and the family members.

The student does NOT enroll in first quarter classes during an orientation although they receive general information about the enrollment process at UCSD. Students will enroll from home (or anywhere in the world) on the Internet prior to the beginning of the quarter. The also will hear from the College Academic Advising Office well in advance of the enrollment period. It is important for new students to activate the UCSD E-mail account as soon as the admissions offer is accepted.

No information for Sixth College and John Muir College…

where did u get this info, is there a link?

also, when exactly do u choose ur classes online…in august? just want to make sure cus my parents think registration goes on during orientation (but i cant make it until the third orientation) so they think i wont get priority in chooisng classes.

What happens at the orientation since its an overnight thing (if anyone knows from last yr)?

what happens if you’re out of the country during all those dates? ahh.

I sent in my SIR 5 weeks ago. When I type in my app # on the ucsd website I get a confirmation that they’ve received my SIR.

But why haven’t I recieved any of this info yet? Does it come snail mail?

I’m an OOS-er (NY) and i dont know if i want to spend an extra 350 just for some two day orientation thing. Are you sure it is mandatory, or can i do whatever is done during those dates online?

I think there is an orientation in september for people who cant make the summer ones.

my school doesn’t get out until (very) late, so the first orientation I can’t even attend without missing school. is registration for classes during orientation, and am I at a disadvantage for registering so late for popular classes?

which leads to even more basic question of my huge ignorance: what do we do during orientation?

I emailed the school and they said it was mandatory to attend one of the sessions.

couldn’t find info for sixth, but I assume they do something similar to the other five colleges

Sixth hasn’t really decided on anything I think. They’re a bit behind the rest of the colleges, but eh.

Man, if they were going to be so weird about mandatory attendance, you’d think they’d have the courtesy to give us the dates earlier. We’re all pretty busy. Is it true about an alternate September orientation? Thanks for the URLs, ahvigjir.

Is it mandatory to stay overnight?

it is mandatory to stay overnight… kuz thats what the orientation is… its meant for you to get used to what is ganna happen at the school and it allows you to sign up for the classes your ganna take… i also heard that your parents can come and stay too… but they stay somewhere else…
