how well is a summer program for admissions? im doing one with the business school…thanks!

probably just as good as a summer program anywhere else. The Stanford Adcom probably won’t give you extra points just because you went to a summer program at stanford instead of somewhere like Berkeley

I went to an info session they had and a rep of the AdCom said that it won’t count as a bonus that you took classes at Stanford, it’ll just be extra proof that you are excited about learning and that you keep challenging yourself. So, like Lamdun said, a summer program anywhere else will prob be just as good. One of my friends who was dying to go to Stanford did a summer program there and didn’t get in, but there are people who do and do get in, so it all depends on the strength of your app as a whole…

Then again a strong rec from a stanford prof can’t hurt…

They also said, though, that they prefer recs from people you’ve known for a while, not just for a couple of months, since they want personal, anecdotal recs, therefore they discourage recs from Profs of summer programs. But I’m sure if it’s really strong, it’ll def. work to your advantage.

If they want recs from teachers who’ve known you for more than a few months, I wonder why they’re willing to accept recs from senior year teachers but not sophomore year teachers. I mean, senior year teachers have only known you for about two months if you’re going SCEA and barely four for RD.

They do accept sophomore year teachers…or at least I thought so

Only for the optional rec. For the 2 teacher recs, they require that it be from a junior or senior year teacher.

oh ok, nevermind then…my whole application process has now become a big blur
