broadway95, I don’t have time to double check the dates but I am pretty sure it may not be too late for the programs at CAP21, Ithaca, Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse, Northwestern, UArts, Emerson, Oklahoma City U, Baldwin-Wallace, and Circle in the Square.

Still time before deadlines at Rutgers-Mason Gross, NYU-Steinhardt, Yale, Boston University. The Arts Edge website says spots are still available, and they have an excellent on-line application process where you upload your videos from you computer. So, if you have those already, it’s really quick and easy. My husband was quite impressed!

Thx everyone!

Not all of the programs in post #362 are MT ones, just in case broadway95 doesn’t know. Also, isn’t Steinhardt’s deadline tomorrow? If you don’t have essays and a DVD made, that is hard to put together in one day.

HI,

Does anyone know much about CAP 21? Is this a top tier summer program and is it hard to get into?
Thanks.

My daughter went to CAP 21 last summer and had a great experience. We live in the vicinity and she had done a winter intensive there as well. Last summer we decided a little late in the process not to do another summer program because of concerns about the level of training and talent, so she decided to do CAP because she had such a positive experience in the winter. We thought the faculty was excellent and were impressed overall with the talent of the kids. The program seems similar in rigor to the other well-known ones–the usual line-up of daily classes: improv, scene study, vocal technique, vocal performance and alternating days of theater dance/jazz, ballet and I can’t remember, maybe tap. There’s no lead-up to a performance, it’s more of a parent-observation day of most of the classes at the end, so you can see what your kids have been working on for the five weeks. My daughter was commuting, but about half the kids live in dorms and there’s a lot of theater going, socializing etc. If you have any other specific questions, or your kid wants to talk to mine, feel free to PM me. Hope this is helpful.

ps: I actually don’t know how competitive it is to be accepted. Sorry!

To be perfectly honest - the CAP21 summer program is a business so as long as you have a decent resume you should be okay. When my daughter applied a few years ago she was 16 and in high school but their high school program was closed out so they offered her the professional program which she attended and loved.

I have had a student audition for the summer pre-college program for MT at CAP21 and was not admitted (last summer) and so not everyone is accepted. She attended another program by audition.

(it had nothing to do with the timing of the application/audition, which was not at the end of their cycle)

My son was notified of acceptance to both Mpulse and BTP. After a very difficult decision process he finally decided on BTP. He was also accepted to OCU and we sent in half tuition about two weeks ago because their deadline was imminent. OCU is on his college list. Do you think backing out of OCU in favor of BTP will reflect badly on his college audition down the line? Anyone ever been in a similar situation?

Hello all of those who like me have chosen to go to BTP this summer, I have just created an unofficial FB group so we can meet each other…
feel free to join/friend me!!

Oops didn’t realize you cant post links to fb if you go onto fb search broadway theatre project 2011 -you should be able to find it!!

We received an email from OCU today that they still have room in both of their 3 week summer sessions. My daughter enjoyed this program immensely last summer. If anyone is still looking - this is an option. They are doing Children of Eden this year as their fully staged show. After March 31st the application fee goes up.

Oklahoma City University has one of the best and well known summer programs for High School and Junior High Musical Theater, as well as their high school/college level Vocal Arts Institute(for study of classical music). The high school programs are both 3 weeks long. Financial Aid IS available. For the 2 week junior high program, they are now offering a non-residential price that has not been available in previous years. Go to their website!!

I have to agree with broadway621. My D attended OCU Summer High School Musical Theatre program three years in a row starting as a rising Junior in High School. The program was very affordable and had excellent training and preparation not only for college auditions, but for a career in MT as well. My D learned an incredible amount in each 3-week period. It was amazing to see her growth and progress when she came home. Also, the fully-staged musicals they put on after only 3 weeks were fantastic!! (My D did Les Mis, Sweeney Todd, and Seussical). During the day the kids would study dance, acting, voice (all taught by current faculty, I believe) and also Master classes (Keli O’Hara taught twice and Florence Birdwell did one each year, for example), and workshops. At night were rehearsals and Saturday mornings had classes like exercise, yoga, make-up lab, etc.
My D is now a sophomore MT student at OCU and it was great for her to get to know Dr Herendeen so well (program director of MT/Opera at OCU) before matriculating and also so many of the faculty. She already felt “home” when she arrived as a Freshman.
Many of her fellow summer students have gone on to great schools as MT majors (including OCU, CCM, UCLA just to name a few that I know for certain).
In other words, I highly recommend OCU’s summer programs! PM me if you have any questions. I’d be happy to help.

Our daughter attended OCU’s summer program last summer and we would highly recommend it to any and all. Not only did she get tremendous training in voice, acting and dance – she has also met lifelong friends who have stayed connected since they left camp. She met kids who live everywhere from Oregon to California to Wisconsin to Kentucky to Canada, to Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, New York and Kansas…really just about everywhere you can imagine. With only about 45-50 kids selected for each session, they became a very close knit, tight group of friends. Our daughter is only a sophomore in high school this year, but many she met last summer are seniors who have met up and supported each other at MT auditions around the country. One of her friends even flew here from far away to support our daughter in a show she was in. And all are so very nice and so accomplished. They are getting in to MT programs ranging from Elon to the Royal School of Dramatic Arts in Scotland and everywhere in between. The talent level was quite high. OCU is an excellent program, a safe environment, friendly yet informative staff – you just can’t go wrong there. Last year they did Urinetown and the quality of the production was amazing, especially considering the amount of time they’ve had to work on it. And I know getting to work on an actual production was very appealing to many of the kids. They also had plenty of opportunities for solo and small group performances in mini-cabarets and an end of camp cabaret as well. I know since camp ended, some of the kids have won awards at major voice competitions like the Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition and others… Just a really nice, talented group of kids.

So glad to hear this as my dd was accepted for this summer and I hadn’t read much about it. We’re considering her ongoing college prep program as well for her but it seems a bit expensive. Did your son do this program after the summer or was the two weeks enough for him?

CCM has a 2 week summer MT program (mid July) through their Community Division. They are still taking applications and gave my D a very speedy response. Audition can be submitted via a YouTube link

I believe I have missed the deadlines for a lot of summer programs. Just wondering if there are many schools that are still hosting auditions or applications? I can get them out by tonight.
Thanks.
