Summer Program Big List- Data/Info - keep adding

If you are a strong dancer you can try Boco.

Who else is going to BTP this summer? I am!

BTP: We got the “sending you the handbook” email today but the the “will follow immediately” handbook email. Did you get it?

no. I thought it would be in her email and it wasn’t. I called and left a message.

bklimowski - Circle in the Square is still accepting applications for their summer program. The deadline is June 1. Not sure where you are located but they still have auditions in Seattle, NYC and Dallas.

BTP stuff just showed up
lots of capital letters in there!

The 4 week UArts summer MT and acting programs, open to rising h.s. juniors and seniors, have been redesigned to track a “mini” experience of the school’s BFA programs both in terms of the admissions process and curricula. Admission now requires submission of h.s. transcripts as well as a video audition. Classes are scheduled 5 days a week, starting at 9:00am and going continuously until 4:00pm with breaks for lunch and dinner and rehearsal going from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. On Saturdays, students attend professional productions. Acting and MT students get 6 hours/wk of core acting studio with additional acting specialization performance classes for each track. MT students also get voice and dance while acting students get movement and speech. The programs are taught by regular UArts faculty from the BFA programs. Here is a link for more info. And there is also now a required meal plan for students.
bargrl, I sent you a PM requesting info on this program. I’ve been checking into it and keep coming back to their website, but would love to hear more about your son’s personal experience there. Considering it for our daughter

I believe The Arts Edge still is accepting applications, too.
To At Last: I responded privately but others might be interested in some details as well.
Its two weeks in New York City at Chelsea Studios with faculty from top schools.
Housing can be arranged through the program and most kids who did not live within commuting distance or with relatives, stayed in the residence. I stayed in New York out of choice and rented an apartment through vrbo.com for my son and another student. There were some optional sessions for parents to attend during the two weeks if parents were available.
My son changed his song and monologue choice as a result of this program. He hadn’t known that students should never do one of his selections.
I believe The Arts Edge really gave him solid direction to work on and gave him a great boost in confidence. He LOVED the whole two weeks. He made great friends whom he keeps in touch with and enjoyed seeing again at auditions.
I only wish he had attended something like this sooner!

If you are a rising junior or senior in high school and planning on auditioning for MT, the Art’s Edge Summer program is a must. There is no other program that can give you access to the top college programs. The director of the program has assembled the most impressive group of instructors from all the top schools, many of the same people who will be judging you in the fall. It is an opportunity to get your audition in the best shape possible and spend some extra quality time with the faculty of CMU, NYU, Boco, Pace,etc..
There are also workshops with top New York casting agents
I know people who attended last year and they have been accepted at top schools

Are there any summer workshops for MT that a student taking a gap year next year can attend? I’m starting coaching with MTCA soon but I’d like to possibly do a summer program in NYC, if there are any whose deadlines haven’t passed.

Look at the post-high school/college-aged summer program at CAP21 (not the same as the h.s. precollege) - they may still have space.

Also, Circle In The Square (don’t know their deadlines)

Take a look at this program
although it seems to be tailored to college auditions, it offers great training for auditions for those who either were not as successful as they would have liked, as well as students who have graduated and need a little more time. I actually understand that one student who was not accepted anywhere was told he was accepted for the fall at a very prestigious program, based on his work at the program

Is anyone familiar with this program?
any info would be great. My S has offer from here and WVa theatre. I am virgin to posting so have mercy!

whoareu,

Welcome. Glad you are finally posting as you have been on CC for a while!

The thread here that you have posted on is about summer theater training programs
the kind you pay to attend, primarily prior to college and take classes, etc.

I believe your post is about summer stock offers and/or professional summer residency programs.

Here is a thread that is more geared toward summer stock (click on the link below):

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1079544-summer-stock-job-offers-what-consider.html

thanks for the assist. Hangar is a “we pay them”. WVa is a “they pay S” . I would love to see some $$, but S is convinced that he shouldn’t pass up Hangar Theatre opportunity. and I am a parent who knows very, very little about this wonderful world that is my S’s passion.

I understand. Still, I think it would be more helpful to post on the summer stock thread I linked you to above because parents of college students or graduates post there more and this thread here is more for pre-college summer programs.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the U of Arts musical theatre summer pre-college program versus the Oklahoma City Musical Theater summer program? Any comparisons between the two would be much appreciated (or comparisons of the actual college experiences as well). Thanks!

I need help please. We just found out our daughter, who had been waitlisted, has been offered a spot at mPulse this summer in the TDA program. She has also been accepted at BTP and we had been planning on her doing that. Last year she attended OCU’s summer program and loved it. She is just finishing her sophomore year in high school. Does anyone have recommendations on which program she should do?
