Hello everyone,
I just want to make people aware about a fantastic Summer Intensive Program in San Francisco, called SUTE. https://summeruniversitytheatreexperience.com

My daughter (now a Freshman at Syracuse) attended it before she started her Senior Year in Highschool.

She worked with faculty from CMU, UM, Texas State, PACE, Otterbein, USC, Syracuse, Ithaca… to name a few. They work with the students 1:1 and as a group, and suggest audition songs as well…

Great option to keep in mind.

We discovered the inaugural College Break Thru one-week MT intensive in Chicago from the @zebracocoa 12/17/2017 post above. Rising senior daughter had a great week. She won 2 scholarship awards: $20K from AMDA (including on-the-spot artistic acceptance) & 4K from Texas State.

Best of all, she had great master classes from 20+ top MT colleges. Good opportunity to make a first impression and connection with many of the schools to which she will be applying. The audition feedback was very constructive. Nice facilities at the University Center in Chicago.

It was an honor to meet Melody Herzfeld and Sawyer Garrity from Parkland, FL. And special thanks to Chyrssie Whitehead from AMDA and Kaitlin Hopkins from Texas State for their encouragement.

Well done David Petro and the Broadway Break Thru staff! I think this will become a popular intensive going forward. We live in the NYC area and made the trip out to Chicago. It was worth it.

Well that’s exciting, @Youngweb! So happy that the post led to a good experience for your daughter! Congrats on the scholarships. I’m assuming your daughter must attend those institutions in order to receive the money?Regardless, having early acceptances will take the pressure off your daughter and give her great confidence moving forward.

Yes @zebracocoa, the scholarship money can only be redeemed if the student attends that university. As we understand it, the AMDA scholarship included artistic acceptance. So yes, my daughter is happy to have at least one acceptance going into the difficult audition process. A recent Playbill article cited AMDA as having the 4th highest number of alumni working in Broadway productions. So that’s a good option to have. And my D is planning to audition for Texas State after hearing from Kaitlin Hopkins at CBT.

Just a follow up: My daughter is finishing up her RADA summer program today and she has LOVED every minute of it. The cost came out comparable (and in some cases cheaper) than some major US programs. They are housed at the University of London international hall because RADA doesn’t have dorms, and she has made friends from around the globe. She said the instructors have been very challenging but very supportive. I’m so glad she has had this experience!

@carriemc95 Which course did she do?

I can’t seem to find the big summer program thread but thought I’d add this here. For anyone looking for a summer theatre camp experience in Cincinnati and the surrounding area, this might be a good one for your child, aged 12-19.

A couple of friends are on the faculty and another friend flew in for the day today on his day off from his Broadway show to work with the kids. They also offer audition prep, private lessons, choreography, and consulting options.

Found and added! Thanks, @actorparent1

@KTVoice She did the Young Actors Short Summer program. One week was Exploring Shakespeare and then the other stage movement.

Just thought I’d add something about The Performing Arts Project (TPAP) at Wake Forest U. in NC: my daughter did the 3 week Panorama (Ages 16 - 25?) program this summer and it was amazing. “Transformative” is the word she has used a lot. She will be starting at NYU/Tisch (NSB) in a few short weeks, and the focus that TPAP has on artistic growth and exploration was awesome. She also met several of her studio mates who will be sophomores or juniors. The Blueprint two-week option is definitely more geared to high school students and specifically college auditions, where the Panorama program was much more about artistic growth for older high school and college students, as well as some young adults who are working professionally already. Can’t recommend this program more highly.

Has anyone heard of The Growing Studio’s LINK Program? My D was nominated for it and it seems incredible. Especially with all of the Broadway Directors and all of those regional theatres involved. Would love to hear anyones previous experience. I know the Growing Studio because my son booked a national tour from one of their classes, but this is the first I’ve heard of them having a program for college students.

PS. She just got an email saying you’ve been nominated, let us know if you’re interested and this link: http://thegrowingstudio.com/new/link/

It’s also very affordable and I would love to know if it includes housing if anyone knows

Starting to think about 2019 summer programs. Does anyone have experience with the University of North Carolina (UNCSA) summer program for drama for kids primarily focused on musical theatre? On the website it says they work on dancing, acting and singing but wondering if it is more geared for acting rather than MT?

Applications for MTI, FSU’s three week summer intensive are open on GetAcceptd. There is additional information on the School of Theatre web site, but feel free to ask questions here as well.

@All4FSU Is there a sample daily schedule available on the website? Perhaps I am just overlooking it, but would be interested in seeing the daily schedule. Thank you.

From OnState Blog today concerning the summer program Broadway Break Thru/ College Break Thru. I’m just going to leave this here. Very sad if true.

That is terrible! Sounds like they will never get paid!

@MTDadandProud Can you post this on the main thread as a new post? I think it’s important that prospective parents see this when making future summer decisions. If they go belly up, it’s possible future students will suffer.

@MidwestMTMom

It isn’t on the web site yet because it can vary a bit depending upon which alums are coming in, but I can email you a copy from last year. Just reach out to me via email: mdiamonti@fsu.edu.

Does anyone have any data about number of applicants or acceptance rates for any of the more popular summer programs?
I’ve searched here and on the internet generally and the only one I can find number of applicants for is Carnegie Mellon, and I think they may be atypical because their program is so long and costs correspondingly more.
Thank you!
